How do you decide between a free trial and a freemium customer acquisition strategy for a B2B SaaS business?

We do both, the basic experience for a small number is free forever which usually converts some smaller customers.
Bigger customers want to run a trial in a team with some advanced features to see how it works for them.
It does require more dev effort though :(

I think it really depends on your product. We have developed a product with a freemium option, which gives users basic capabilities but enough so that they can have fun with it. However, the pro version will include more functionalities that should entice those who want to do even more. (Canva's freemium and pro plans are amazing)
I can imagine that if you are interested in targeting and retaining mainly enterprise clients, that maybe a free trial could work better for you.
