Has Product Hunt changed? How is the featured section determined?

I launched my product today. In the past, the products in the featured section used to change constantly, and we would appear as well. What has changed? Are they doing this manually?

I asked the same question a few days ago because I was very surprised about how my launch went
Someone shared this link with me : https://help.producthunt.com/en/...
It's really informative, disappointing, but informative

@hadzhaoglu Yes, as long as it’s a manual process, I think they favor product that they like the most among those who fills the criteria
That’s a shame, a rotation while upvote are not available or something like this would be better imo

There's been a lot of complaints and discussions about this recently, see e.g.

Seems like many factors influence the featured section now - connections, recent upvotes/momentum, and of course product quality. But would love more transparency from PH on the algo. Also noticing more non-tech products getting featured lately - perhaps to expand into new categories beyond the tech/startup crowd? Interesting to see how PH evolves to stay relevant. What do others think?
I think PH has changed quite a bit over the years in terms of what gets featured. Seems like it's harder for smaller indie projects to get visibility compared to VC-backed startups with bigger launch budgets. Would be great to get more transparency on the selection process and how we can give awesome bootstrapped products a fair shot. What do others think - have you noticed a shift in what tends to get featured?
@hannahgracesullivan Everyone says different things, because of that I can not get PH's alg. After our launch I started to think about building new and fair platform for indie products.
I think it's still largely determined by upvotes and comments, but the mods likely curate it more now to feature a diverse mix of products. Some AI assistance in surfacing high potential hunts could help keep it fresh while still community-driven. Curious to hear from others who've been around PH longer!
