How do you build an audience?

Question

It is said that the hardest part of creating a product/business is not creating the product itself, is actually buying people's time, but if you have that and the product is good, chances of success augment exponentially.

What has worked best for you? Any tips to a newcomer?

@schemetastic it really depends on who you are trying to sell to and where they hang out online. We sell to marketers, who all seem to use LinkedIn - if trying to sell to developers maybe X (Twitter) would be better?

Consistency and delivering value is key, we sell to other businesses and have found constantly generating content for LI was a great way to build up the audience.
