How do you see internal tools adding value to business operations?

I see many compelling stories from the likes of FAANG and other giants like Spotify - on the value internal tools drive for them. There is not much from scales-ups / startups and their perception of internal tools. Would love to hear some stories/thoughts on the matter. From the perspective of an internal tool PM and an internal tool developer. Thanks in advance for contributing! :)
