How long did it take to build your first product?

I guess I procrastinated about writing my first Ebook & started working on it 7 months later. Surprisingly, getting started was all it needed. I built it and launched it within 48 hours. 😅

Product Hunt Launch Checklist
It took me 15 days from the idea to launch the basic MVP of LaunchList (https://getlaunchlist.com) on PH. Our PH launch was not successful but we've found many users from Reddit and IH. LaunchList is a tool to build a viral waiting list of early users.
It took us about a year to build the first product. We have been very busy coding, designing, and testing during this period. We have also met many people to connect and learn more about the product. We also spent a lot of time on Facebook and Twitter to communicate with others who could help us build our product.

Sounds good! I spend around half year, just because of lack of motivation

I have spent 60 days building my massive product https://docswrite.com With docswrite, you can create a blog from Google Docs in 30 seconds. WordPress users can directly publish Google Docs to WordPress saving 15~30 mins for each article.

@sandeep_acharya Good to know about Docswrite. We have a similar product Publish to WordPress (https://workspace.google.com/mar...) but it is offered free.

This remembers me of a pile of halfway broken side gigs. But considering my first completed project, it took less than a week. But for the last few years, there is no half-cooked code in my repo. Just launched a product today on PH. Check it out(https://bit.ly/3QF7oyY)

3 week for the first iteration 1 month for the next 2 weeks for the next 4 months for the current: https://prepxus.com

It depends on the product itself. some of my product took more than 2 years some 2 days.

I've taken 3 months in average for my previous products. Now I'm aiming at a maximum of 80 hours of work before going to market. After launch if it makes sense I could put more time on it. All new businesses in some form are a bet, and I think betting more than 2-4 weeks without any real feedback is a lot.
I have found Spolsky's advice to be quite accurate: https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2... It's pretty easy to crush out a product in a month just for the sake of speed, but it usually takes far longer to really understand what you are building and where you want to take it.

Usable product? About 2 months. MVP? About one week. I guess it really depends on the definition of the "first product"

Hey there ;) It took us over a year to build xTiles. But in the end, we got a great alternative to Notion/Milanote, although we still have a lot of work to do.

It took nearly 2 years to build our first product as we spent loads of time on customer research and validation. We were keen on making sure that our products stands out from the crowd and solves the bigger problem for founders.

Very interesting! Personally, I spend up to six months - I have enough of the right motivation!

It's hard to say with our product https://thetradehub.net because we are always constantly working on it, adding new features, improving or exchanging existing features, and always building the community surrounding it. But this month last year I had already came up with the idea and was writing a document that explained what it is, what it does, and going into detail on how it should work and look. Had some issues initially finding designers & developers, but one of those scenarios was a blessing in disguise which introduced me the the fellas who designed the website. Where I then found a team of 2 dev's which 4 weeks later I fired the first for not even finishing the splash page by that time- which I was quoted 4 weeks for the whole thing to finish. So the other dev ended up doing both front and backend. Then real progress started being made and 2 months later our beta testing started. It's been a year later and everything we set out to do is finished, but there is always something we think of to add or improve on. Longer story short it took maybe 3 months, 4 max from first idea to functional app. We never feel it's complete, but all the features we set out to do are mostly finished besides some that weren't important as new features we came up with later on. So maybe 6-8 months in total... But I don't feel this will building will ever be finished, there is just always something more we can add to the platform.

Hey Sarvam, It took us more than a year and half to build our product and then we launched on AppSumo a few months ago to collect more feedback on how to improve our product and now we're ready for Product hunt :)) Cooming in 2 days: Snackeet

A solid 6-8 months including beta testing.

Maybe 2 weeks to build the product? and around 13 months after that to launch. If I could do it again, id launch ASAP and then iterate with consumer feedback.

It took us 3 months to build the MVP version. Honestly, it was all hands on deck at that time. We also did 'workathon' to rally everyone towards the goal. Makes me nostalgic about the journey.
