How much freedom should you give influencers when doing influencer marketing?

I just started working with influencers and I'm struggling to figure out how hands on I need to be. There have been a few times I've let them do their thing, and the content comes back perfect and authentic and helps drive great business. However, not everyone is a natural and it can be hard to reroute course once I've seen that the creator is not so great when left on their own.
