  • How to Write Privacy Policy and Terms & Services?

Almost every application requires you to accept their terms & services and read their privacy policy page. In my opinion very few people read those documents, the majority gives their consent and continue without even taking a glimpse at those documents. Besides a few people reading these documents, I think they are very important because the provide all the information about how the software is intended to by used and why we collect and how we process the user data. I'm a software developer and I have no idea who writes these documents and how they are created. What are all the aspects that should be covered in the document? Do I need to seek legal advice or even book a consultation with an attorney? The laws are different in every country, so how do you solve this if your software is intended to be used globally? Once created, are you allowed to change these documents or they are "set in stone"? Do you compose these documents on your own or you seek a help from a legal professional? I'm curious and very grateful to hear someone share their experience on the topic.

The content of the terms of use will depend on the features of your service. You can learn a lot by looking at the terms of use of services with similar features (but don't copy and paste). Look at the privacy policies of services available around the world and fill in any missing items. e.g. GoDaddy If you have the funds, we recommend consulting with policy experts. They know the laws that are updated every year.
