I’ve been building a small productivity tool and want to do some beta tests soon. I asked people who have built and shipped consumer tools/ software to share how they get the first 100 users and which channels do they find useful. Here are the answers I got: 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Family and Friends “First hundred for us was still first and second level network. At this stage people are still believing in you more than the product or your vision.” 🤖 From reddit “Reddit. When I see someone asking about job boards for tech jobs I tell them about mine. I rarely get downvoted because my job board is quite unique, it uses AI to summarize and filter jobs to save time applying. So I'd say, if your tool actually helps people and is quite unique then Reddit is a good channel.” 🥊 From competitors, and Product Hunt! “In my opinion, the best way to get your first 100 users is to attract them from competitors by leveraging the advantages of your product or offering a better price. Additionally, Product Hunt is also a great option.” 📝 Through content creating and KOL collab “I would be creating daily content about the product niche. In your case this should be talking about productivity at a rate that makes Alex Hormozi feel lazy. Also interacting with as many relevant influencers & communities. Content that you post that does well you can pay to boost because you know the content does well.” 🐘 Integration with larger tools “Integrating with popular productivity tools and learning from their communities.” 💰 Paid ads “I did it through search distribution and Google ads." 🎪 Offline where users hang out "I go hang out where I know our target audiences will be and chat with them (in our case game stores, for example). For conventions I made a fun sign to engage with folks so they approached me vs. needing to strike up cold convos with people.“ How did you get your 1st 100 users? Please share! 🍻
