Is the Product Manager position doomed?

Startups are laying off PMs massively. Senior PM is the number one job people want to quit. Many companies now give Product Management tasks to other positions (like - PMMs, Product Designers) Do you think Product Managers are going extinct?

Nah, just specialise in something. Finance, law, product, tech, marketing, that way your useful when your not watching the employees.

@sentry_co "watching the employees" now that's an interesting way to look at a PM job !

No, but PM need to know more now.

@spanchen agreed, PMs need to level up beyond knowing how to write user stories or use a RICE prioritization framework 😅

Most PMs have no technical background when working in tech, which makes them worthless.

@rbatista19 so you feel only people with engineering background should qualify for PM jobs ?

@toni_pm I wouldn't set a black/white rule, but the majority of PMs without technical skills underperform (but some are the exception).

It seems like the Product Manager role is facing some challenges in the current startup landscape. With layoffs and a high desire to quit among Senior PMs, the future of this position might be uncertain. Companies shifting PM tasks to other roles like PMMs and Product Designers could be a sign of changing times in the tech industry.

I don't think it's doomed at all! I'd say it's on the rise, actually. Would love to hear your thoughts on AI's impact on product research, wanna join my study?

@paulinahryniewicz feel free to reach out to talk about your study. About the PM position, the current situation doesn't really show signs of a job "on the rise". Interested to learn what makes you thing that
