Is Twitter living or dying? Are you willing to pay for verification?

Elon Musk has imposed a limit on the number of tweets one can see per day. https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1675187969420828672 In my opinion, while many people criticize it, the number of accounts getting verified will continue to increase. If you are active on Twitter and have not yet been verified, Are you willing to pay for verification?

Pay to play? I was raised better 🧘‍♂️

Not at all happy with the direction Twitter is headed in. What value is verification even going to hold if you can just pay to get verified? Also restricting the number of tweets the users see is only going to reduce the time they spend on the platform. Isn't the ultimate goal of any social media platform to maximize the time users spend on it? I just don't get it 🤷‍♂️
Dexter Awoyemi
@namrata_arya yes, but still think we need a good alternative. e.g. linkedin doesn't do it for me lol
Dexter Awoyemi
@namrata_arya I agree. The network effects are strong though. Hard to convince people to move to an alternative like Mastodon or Bluesky unless, like the addage goes, they become ≥15% better.
Namrata Arya
@dextersjab I think in the near term, network effect will matter, but ultimately if the users aren't happy, they will move out eventually
Namrata Arya
@dextersjab agreed. People won’t move out unless there’s a good alternative. Which definitely doesn’t exist right now. But you never know - a new one might spring up overnight 🤷‍♀️

@namrata_arya are you thinking about Meta's upcoming Threads literally due within ~ a day? https://www.threads.net
Kind of think it’s dying a bit

@maxwellcdavis Haha, Yes. Many people think the same. Let's see how's going

Twitter is as alive as much as you are active there :D I paid for my verification, and the primary reason is that it makes it much easier to connect with people. There is a sense of mutual trust. Regarding the ideas of gaining more views and better reach, I didn't notice much difference. I genuinely believe that the key lies in your own actions and how much you truly engage with people.

@sandradjajic Yes, True. The blue mark doesn't cover everything. Sincerity first.

Def living, paid for verification
Charlie Kor
@nishant_modi Are you willing to pay? I already paid it.

Right now, I see it experiencing a very slow death, kinda like Facebook. It's still widely used but you can tell the sentiment around it changed. People are getting more and more turned off by it so it's only a matter of time until we find something better. We're still hanging on to Twitter because there is nothing else like it, but as soon as a better alternative comes up, we'll be switching to that.
Charlie Kor
@heleana Thank you for sharing insightful opinion! I think they are striving not to become like Facebook.
Charlie Kor
@sofia_murphy Haha, You don't think it's worth it?
Sofia Murphy
@charlie_lee1 Nahhh, just seems like show off. Not worthy. What profit or benefit you will get with a verification tickmark? I can't see any!
Vova Makstakov
The less bots, the better. I am ready to pay for it.
Charlie Kor
@vova_makstakov Yes. Indeed, verification can also serve as a means to filter out individuals who are genuinely interested in investing in Twitter.

Honestly I never used Twitter! I believe it's a great tool to keep up with your community but other than that I hate it!
Charlotte Chiang
It might be growing less quickly than it once was, but it's still an engaging place, one of the first places I hear about news/public opinion, and a fantastic source of traffic for us!
Charlie Kor
@charmandro Yes! I read that the younger generation relies more on Twitter rather than traditional news sources for information. haha

Whether Twitter is living or dying is a subjective question, and opinions may vary. Twitter remains one of the popular social media platforms with a significant user base, but it faces challenges such as addressing issues related to spam, harassment, and misinformation. Regarding Elon Musk's tweet, However, I can highlight that the limitations or changes imposed by influential figures can impact the platform's dynamics. Regarding verification, Twitter's verification process is typically free of charge and is provided to establish the authenticity of accounts representing public figures, journalists, and notable entities. While there have been discussions about implementing a paid verification option, as of now, it is not officially available. Whether or not individuals would be willing to pay for verification is subjective and would depend on their personal goals and priorities on the platform.

I started on Twitter this year and have loved it so far. It’s not going anywhere.

Network effects are too strong for anything to happen to Twitter. A platform that makes content creators pay, whose content it runs on, is not going to go away because of a few glitches.

Twitter's status can be subjective, but it remains a popular social media platform with a large user base. MyAccountAccess Credit Card

Will never pay, if was free should remain free

@alex_tiglas Yes that makes sense too.

🌟 It's fascinating to explore the ever-evolving landscape of social media, and while the question of whether Twitter is living or dying sparks intriguing discussions, let's not forget the potential value of paying for verification, which can enhance trust, credibility, and authenticity in the digital realm!

Honestly, I don't hate it. I get that we've gotten used to free twitter, but for the price and the amount of use people get out of it, it's not bad that they want to charge. I'm also convinced that Elon is purposefully trying to remove users. Everyone is criticizing him for it, but I think it's part of his plan.
Charlie Kor
@marclafleur Yes I agree. At the first time, I also have a negative opinion. But now I understand what they want to do and he's a businessman..
Ben Bellerose
I think twitter is here to stay but it might loose size but become more profitable
Fiona Gasper
Paying for verifcation is pretending to be somebody you are not
Charlie Kor
@fiona_gasper Isn't verification able to filter out fake accounts?
Philippa Mayall
@charlie_lee1 who knows I’m the fake of me? I get it for public figures, but no one wants to imitate me
