  • Pre-Launch: Creating a community without asking for upvotes

When preparing a launch I came across two, somewhat conflicting, recommendations: 1) You need to build some community/followers who will support you during your launch day BEFORE the launch 2) Don't proactively ask people to upvote for you (potentially penalized by PH algorithm) What's your take? How do you handle this?

Let's be frank; everyone is asking to vote. I get 2-3 requests every day. The sharpest ones replace the verb vote with support. Other than that, I often see mediocre products created by founders with an outstanding personal brand win product-of-the-day. Conversely, unknown founders who create great products don't always make the front page. But I don't think that's terrible. It's normal. That's the culture here; those are the rules. Just play by them.

@yankovichv Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the honest opinion I guess it's normal to ask for support (votes), just important not to over-do it and spam people

There are 2 good ways to find relevant people: - Connect with the top hunter for your topic using https://upvote-bell.com/leaderboard - Connect with people who upvoter similar products. You can use Product hunt API or Phantombuster to create the list.

Wow, never got asked for upvotes so far. But I do it anyways because that's the purpose of being here, right? Showing support and creating communities.
