Productive habits that didn't work out for you

Have you ever tried a productive habit that didn't work out for you? Bonus points if it was one of those magazines' advice on how to be productive (Vogue etc.) 😁

or simply waking up at inhumane times ⏰ Sure, you can be awake while everyone else's still asleep, but (for me) my brain is still non-functional; it's usually dark outside, so everything's against getting productive. And just as you wrote, I pay the price later on during the day, when my brain gets sluggish and sleepy earlier. To be honest, I never tried it for long-enough to rebalance my internal clock, maybe that'd change my opinion

@johnnyfekete Yesss, totally agree! P.S. I've also never tried it for long enoughπŸ˜… To be honest, I cannot lose that much time by being sleepy, and waiting when finally my internal clock resets or something
Dara
@johnnyfekete I always wake up early and either get work done or go for a run. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Pablo Palmitas
@johnnyfekete hah that's accurate. Doing Mark Wahlberg 3am wake up routine. Seems like a living nightmare. But then maybe for some people it actually works
Jerome Tse
@johnnyfekete thanks for being with me. Many entrepreneurs around me did this and tell me it's because I'm not strong enough. I think everyone has a different body and it doesn't work out for everyone. Just stick with your own schedule.

Same here, Anna. I tried running in the mornings but, just like you, I would get tired after some hours. Right after the initial boost of energy due to the adrenaline of a good run, I would feel pretty tired.

@miriam_barchilon_elbaz I see so many people with the exact same issue, makes me feel so much better about my failed tries lol

Personally, pre scheduling my social media posts. I know I know, it's more time productive. But honestly, I found myself trying to make things up vs speaking from me ❀️

@alex_papageorge Same here! Quality goes way down while quantity goes up. Obviously everyone wants both but quality is definitely more important
Anna Mandziuk πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦
@alex_papageorge Agreed! I much prefer the latter ❀️

@alex_papageorge @edward_g Same! It saves me so much time, but quality suffers.
Well in general any of the productivity hacks!

Every morning routine thing. I am not a morning person, and I really hate how every publication out there, makes it a **me** problem, instead of a society problem. I tried waking up super early (5-6am) - wasn't productive till 10am, and then was falling asleep at 2pm. I tried exercising in the morning- felt completely dead. Eating breakfast - not my thing either. As I age, I came to peace with the fact that your body goes first, and you shouldn't care what some fancy magazines or blogs suggest.

Time blocking - tried hard to make it work for me, after reading that Elon Musk does it. But just not able to do it yet! But hope to improve that soon!!

@sagar_devkate Same here Sagar! I tried to block my calendar regularly but couldn't keep up with it πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

@sagar_devkate @k_j1 Timeblocking is one of the few things that worked for me - but I keep track of it mentally and keep it flexible, if I had to set it up in my calendar I'd go nuts. I often get lost in a task and end up spending too much time on it. If I set a limit to how long I'll be on it I get way more productive.

Early rising and early sleeping do have health benefits but to make things productive it was tough as I can concentrate much at night.

Running is a great sport. It certainly takes a lot of strength and energy and hardly makes your day productive. I, too, by the evening after the run just cut out. I am currently engaged in sports shooting. The disadvantage of this kind of occupation is that the weapon is expensive, the accessories to it are also not the cheapest. For example, an average holster costs $ 100 - $ 150, but I succeeded and I found the best holster for ruger blackhawk worth $ 79.30. But there is a huge plus, the emotions after the shooting are not forgotten. I am so emotionally charged after shooting that my productivity rises dramatically. I directly feel that I have more strength and energy. This has not happened for a long time.

Journaling didn't work for me. I love to write about my problem to sort things out, but only when I actually have a problem worth writing about. Daily journaling just seem like a chore after a while because on most days I don't have anything worth writing about.

@styletrendsnews haha I fell in love with journaling about 2 years ago, but I'd never do it for my business. Writing about something I'm thinking about though, that helps a lot. Feels like dropping a load off my mind.
Anna Mandziuk πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦
@styletrendsnews Yep, I also only journal on occasions where I have a LOT to write, every day is overkill for me
Dawn Veltri
@styletrendsnews Same. I love writing, but I hate journaling with every ounce of my being πŸ˜‚.

I tried one that many articles always suggest - start running in the morning. I gave it a chance for maybe a week and found that I was pretty energetic during the first 2 hours of the working day. However, closer to lunchtime, I was pretty much asleep with my eyes open😴 It didn't increase my productivity at allπŸ˜…
Dara
@anna_mandziuk I'm up early. Sometimes I take a nap for 30 mins after lunch. How much the run affects your body will depend on your conditioning/fitness levels.
Pablo Palmitas
@anna_mandziuk I think the mindset is important too. Like running for the sake of running and hoping that it will boost anything rarely work. It's necessary to enjoy what you're doing. If you're not enjoying - drop it altogether and move on.
Sagar
@anna_mandziuk Me too give up on running easily!!

Waking up a few hours earlier ... it doesn't work for me, because I walk tired

@antonovna Everyone is different so the advice to wake up early doesn't help people with different sleep patterns. Its more important to get enough sleep for your health.

I think most productivity hacks leave me feeling dry. The only hack that's ever worked is discipline and focus. Simple as that. Others are mostly fluff in my opinion.

Reading one book a week. I don't know what it is about those startup/marketing/growth/motivation books but every time I'm reading one of those, it does exactly the opposite. After finishing I feel bad about myself for not doing enough and set unrealistic expectations (again).
Dara
@pablo_palmitas setting SMART goals and not reaching them is a learning process. Not setting any goals is an exercise in futility. Don't feel bad.

@pablo_palmitas πŸ˜‚ I got "The 4-Hour Workweek" for my birthday. Are you suggesting not to read it if I don't want to get depressed?
Pablo Palmitas
@w_j hah, nice title! I would say read it with caution. And try to get something practical out of it and not just "motivation porn"

@pablo_palmitas @w_j Ironic that it took me more than 4 hours to read it :-D
Michael Silber
@pablo_palmitas That is seriously impressive to read a book a week. From my perspective, if you can read that much, try to mix up your diet. Not all inspiration will come in the form of non-fiction business books
