This is what I would do when the new social media appeared

This is a reflection of the situation with Bluesky. I don't know if the network will be here tomorrow, in 4 months or 10 years, but my current approach is as follows: ✅ Become an early adopter and grow as much as possible because, on a smaller network, you will reach people faster. ✅ Starting with unified "branding" – photos, bio etc. because you are easily searchable for people who are used to your former soc. media. ✅ Informing about certain social media – when the topic is hot, people are interested in current events related to that platform. What are your takes: Is it meaningless for you to start on a new platform or would you do something better using that platform?

I guess the answer to that question is: what's the deal with Threads accounts? Well, and the question of resources. If Twitter and LinkedIn are squeezed to the max, then you need to look for new channels. And if there is zero coverage now, then you first need to focus on one big thing.

I'm all about being an early adopter, new platforms are perfect for experimenting without the pressure. Bluesky's smaller community means deeper conversations are possible, way less noise than the big networks. No algorithm to fight, smaller audience to connect with, and way less pressure to be perfect so it's a good idea to start on a new platform.

A few years ago, when Clubhouse was trending, we jumped on it quickly, thinking it was the next big thing. While it was exciting at first, it ended up disrupting our focus on the channels that were already working for us. Since then, I’ve been a bit more skeptical about new social media platforms. I believe (especially with small Marketing teams) it’s better to focus on 1–2 channels where you can be active, consistent, and present a strong, cohesive brand, rather than spreading yourself thin across every new platform that pops up. That way, your efforts actually deliver value rather than being diluted. That said, there’s merit in keeping an eye on new platforms like Bluesky. Early adoption can be powerful, but only if it aligns with your audience and long-term strategy.

@busmark_w_nika I also believe there are great opportunities in new platforms like Bluesky – don't get me wrong. The challenge, though, is that it’s tough – especially for small teams – to maintain a presence on every social media platform.
