Legal factors need to be clarified, a good onboarding process is required and the employee needs a comprehensive technical setup. These and many more are the basics. However, in addition to the business issues, it is also very important to consider the cultural aspects. How can I ensure that my employee identifies with the company despite the physical distance? How do I create a strong sense of unity? These are questions that many remote companies do not consider. In my opinion this is the basis for good employee retention and therefore high employee productivity.

I don't think it's any different than hiring locally. Hardest thing is knowing the person's character, and in my experience I'll never know unless I work with them for a while. So for me, "picking the right teammate" is a smaller part of the decision than "keeping the right teammate" on the job.
