What are your unhealthy work habits?

I used to struggle with never-ending workdays. I would tell myself, 'I'll just finish this one thing.’ I am more in control now, because I have changed my priorities, and the blur between work and life doesn't happen to me anymore. But it took time and effort to do so. What are your ‘I know it's, bad but I still do it’ work habits?

Not stopping with a task when my head is overloaded. I should go into into "diffuse mode thinking" rather than keep hammering away.

@edmondbitay hahah, diffuse mode thinking is a great way to say it

@mary_rumyantzeva Can't take the credit! I picked up the concept from Barbara Oakley's How to Learn, book. It changed my life, crazy productivity gains.

Same for me! I'm working non-stop every day. Hopefully in the nearest future I'll be able to better prioritize, and delegate something, but now I'm just used to it :) Also sometimes I work at nights.

I have experienced it too. And I also work in a flow. I mean I do things with focus but in a slightly leisure way. The problem with it is that if I had worked fast, I'd do more things in the same time.

@senthil99nathan Have you found a way to overcome this problem?

Thinking that cracking my knuckles somehow clears my brain~~~

@mary_rumyantzeva Ummmm, so after working for quiet some time when I get up to take a break the first thing I do is to crack my knuckles..... It's not a good habit but somehow it just makes my hands lighter.....

@mansi_trivedi1 I know exactly what you mean

It's great to hear that you've found a balance! We've all been there with the never-ending workdays. One of my 'I know it's bad but I still do it' work habits is checking emails incessantly even after work hours. It's a tough one to break!

Work on the weekends. The even worse side of it is that most of the time I really enjoy that 😄 You can concentrate on your tasks, and no one will interrupt you. So you have a pretty relaxed but productive time

@sakozzy I can relate to this...
Share
Mary Rumyantzeva, PhD
@sakozzy @access24 But if you enjoy it and don't feel the need for a distraction on the weekends, I don't think it's a bad thing
Share
Domas Sakavickas
@access24 @mary_rumyantzeva the bad thing is that you feel consequences on Mondays when colleagues are getting back to work fully rested, and for you, it's like the never-ending work week :)

I know what you are describing. One more task and then one more task, ok this is the last task. Oh I have to answer this mail and sooo on.

Good question, I sit way too much although I benefit from a standing desk. That's my #1

@andreiciulinaru We're the same LOL! We gotta invest ourselves the standing desks + probably a treadmill below it (I see people doing this)
Share
Mary Rumyantzeva, PhD
@andreiciulinaru I've seen that only in movies. Do people really do this?
Share
Mary Rumyantzeva, PhD
@andreiciulinaru Totally understand. I have a standing desk too
