From the top of my head: 1. Has to solve a problem I'm facing (better to be a cure than a band-aid, but band-aids can count too) 2. Catchy name helps :) 3. Design (if something is aesthetically pleasing - from the logo, website, packaging, marketing communications, etc. - then it's a sign the maker really cares about the product) 4. Customer support
