If they nail the tech, it's pretty exciting if you ask me. It allows users to integrate into AI tools system wide and not have to wait for each individual developer to integrate with their apps. As a developer myself, i look forward to use their integrations so that I don't have to worry about building and maintaining something myself. I can focus on what makes my app stand out, not some AI feature that will be obsolete in 6 months.

Google still has the best web search engine all in all I think. I don't see why Apple should stop collaborating with them.
Also, I find this "Apple Intelligence" very stupid.
@konrad_sx best search engine for sure but weβre slightly evolving towards a GenAI query by default than a web search regardless of how powerful the search engine is
@konrad_sx I could not disagree more. I have not used Google for years. Search results are cluttered with ads and sponsored spots. Apple does not collaborate with Google. Google just pays them a ton of money to be the default search engine in Apple browsers.
Not sure what you mean about Apple Intelligence being stupid. Maybe you don't like the play on AI. π€·ββοΈ

@joeworkman Well, then we disagree ;)
I didn't say Google search is great, just that it's better than the others in my experience. I do try Bing from time to time, but several times I noticed that important results were missing, simply because the pages were not indexed. Copilot is sometimes very helpful of course.
What search engine are you using?
Yes, I just don't like Apple's complacency.
@konrad_sx I use DuckDuckGo which uses Bing under the covers. I have never had issues finding what I needed. I did try to move back to Google recently but as I stated before, I found it hard to find what I needed through the weeds.
Launching soon!
Well, Apple teaming up with OpenAI is like a dynamic duo taking on the tech world! As for Google, let's just say they might need to update their search history after this unexpected twist in the plot. ππ€ #TechLandscapeShakeUp
From a security point of view I was worried about this, but watching the keynote, it seems very well thought out. My concerns have not been removed entirely, but I do feel more comfortable.
Apple Intelligence is I will loosely say seperate from the OpenAI integration into Siri. And then Siri does want to use ChatGPT, it asks your permission first to share whatever the relevant data is that you are querying Siri with - e.g. text, image, etc.
The Apple Intelligence "Protected Cloud Compute" feature is really the part I am interested in understanding what that means and what the tech looks like under the hood and how this is actually being secured other than just what was a marketing explanation in the keynote.
From my viewpoint I am more interested in understanding the security implications on all of my devices now more than anything. I haven't watched the keynote yet so I don't know all of the details enough to comment if that is good or bad, but at this stage it is a concern.
Also seems really weird from Apple, why wouldn't they just do their own instead of partnering, doesn't seem like a decision based on the way they do everything else. I would be interested in understanding why.
Keen also to understand what everyone else thinks. Good / bad / concerning?
@luca3927 It seems like Apple didn't want to reinvent the wheel, or perhaps they tried and couldn't achieve a good enough AI solution on their own, so they decided to collaborate with OpenAI instead.
I completely agree that Apple is highly valued for its security standards, and it will be fascinating to see how they maintain these standards in this partnership. What really intrigued me is that I was sure Google's Gemini would be Apple's partner since it's a common scenario for industry giants to join forces. But here, things took a different turn.
@islam_akramov perhaps that is the reason or maybe it just buys them time so that they can develop their own, like the m series chipset.
Good point on the Google partnership, the only thing I can think of is licensing costs, isnβt that why they moved away from Google Maps?
Crazy how you no longer own your data anywhere...
From my understanding the cloud based AI is more of a temporary solution until on-device AI can be rolled out on all Apple devices.
IMHO the on-device AI announced by Apple is the groundbreaking part.
To your Question Google is, if not dying, certainly being challenged big time with a world evolving towards prompt over search.
The collaboration is an impressive one
I for one use Apple products and to be honest the assistant, Siri is not so efficient and is too rigid. I need the assistant for some basic tasks and it pains me to see how it performs, especially in this generation where technology is advanced.
The collaboration will actually be a ground breaking move for Apple. I am totally in support.
lets be honest google has been messing up every time when it comes to ai starting from the first day so its no surprising . i just hope google step up its game
Google isn't dying but there seems to be a shift from Google to other options. An example is the common phrase "Google It" which is being used less and people are shifting towards Chat GPT for finding answers. Google is also rushing its launches, Gemini and AI Overview were launched recently and both had problems and Open AI's launch of the 4o Model had such advanced features.
The Collaboration between Apple and Open AI shows that Google is replaceable which until 4-5 years ago seemed impossible to replace.
