ah, marketing, the art of telling a story so compelling, wallets open.
genius marketing isn't always about budget. often, it's about audacity and timing.
evernote's freemium model? genius. gave value before asking for it.
dollar shave club's viral video? humor cut through the noise. made razors cool.
apple's 1984 ad. not just a product, but a revolution. talked to our aspirations, not our needs.
tesla. no advertising budget. each car is an ad. each owner, a marketer.
nike's 'just do it.' three words, endless motivation. an ethos, not just a slogan.
genius marketing often flips a script. challenges conventional wisdom or assumptions.
it also plays the long game. brand over sales. relationships over transactions.
and, genius marketing doesn't feel like marketing. it feels like a story you want to be a part of.
what's common? they didn't just sell a product. they sold a better version of you.
in marketing, genius is less about the idea, more about the execution and timing. always be watching.
I think Dollar Shave Club did an excellent job of marketing their product when it was first starting out with a chill and relatable CEO making for a funny commercial. I think Apple's 1984 Superbowl commercial was also a legendary marketing idea due to the timing of the commercial and the positioning of the tech company at the time.

@scottlabsai I agree. Dollar shave club was brilliant in addressing a problem with comedy. Apple always knocked it out of the park with marketing when Steve was alive. (today is meh, they lost their way)
