What technique has helped you collect the most email addresses?

Question for those who write newsletters. ✉️ What kind of incentive or reward did you offer in exchange for the email? I suppose many of you have some banner that pushes people to sign up for your newsletter. What else? Can you share your approach, strategies and the most effective technique in this matter?

you can also scrape emails from LinkedIn via getprospect.com I use this many times a day.

@filippo_calabrese In the age of AI. I think rate limits will limit these automated tools. So yeah building aa strong brand and being personal might come back in fashion very soon.

@sentry_co that website is gold. thanks for sharing. Do you also use Apollo or Sales Navigator? If yes, what is your experience with those?

@filippo_calabrese I probably will at some point, but I think I need to build more reputation, so if LinkedIn decides to "shadow-limit" me I can revert their decision. I just joined LinkedIn one year ago. What about you?

@sentry_co I understand. On our side, we tried different approaches. Sales Navigator works very well for us and we manage to organise many appointments. We also tried Apollo and Lusha for lead generation and had good results there too, but frankly not comparable to direct contact on LinkedIn. However, in all this, what really doesn't compare to any other approach is the word-of-mouth from existing customers.

@busmark_w_nika What do you mean? avoid what part? using a script or the practice of scraping?

@busmark_w_nika Oh yeah for sure. If you mass send random email's they will stop going through at some point anyways. Global spam networks are very sensitive now days. But that's a separate problem. You asked for emails. I guess what you are really asking is. How do you get newsletter signups. I would say: Make something people want. A strong differentiator. I don't think there is a quick fix here. And think niche that can expand. Something people care a lot about that they can't get any other way or other place. Like time-sensitive insider stock tips.

@busmark_w_nika Question "How do you build your newsletter mailing list?" or "How do you get people to signup to your newsletter?" But to be honest. I think the more "ominous" 😈 "How to you scrape emails" is more viral 🥶 altho you will get ominous answers I suppose

Without a doubt, it's been giving away something for free. At least that's how I've got my over 24,000 email subscribers Marketing-savvy folks would call this a lead magnet :) I call it something of real value. Something of genuine value to my target audience. Give, give, give :)

@busmark_w_nika I'm a writer - so that's usually free books / a 5-day email series with awesome content etc.

@ohansemmanuel 24000 email subscribers?? That is so awesome! How long have you been building this list Ohans?
Share

@yukioyama NGL I've been writing for at least 7 years. So give or take, I reckon at least 5 years 😅 and most of my subscribers come from giving away something for free. Something of value. FWIW, I'm also off most social media apps. So, I don't really get subscribers from there.

@ohansemmanuel that is so sick! Way to stay consistent over that stretch of time, no small feat! Are you planning to launch your product to your list as well?

@rada_vassil1 Sure! My target audience is developers - so, techy folks. I noticed for one-off "lead magnets" a few people used temporary emails just to get the "free stuff". With a 5-day email series, it's different. If you really want the value, you need a real email you can access for a long time. So I occasionally tested this e.g., instead of offering a single free PDF, I break the content and spread it across X days as an email series. Hope this helps!

The most effective technique I've used to collect email addresses has been offering high-value, exclusive content that requires an email for access. This not only incentivizes sign-ups but also ensures that the audience is genuinely interested in what we have to offer.

I offer a discount code for my online store as an incentive. It's a win-win because subscribers get a discount, and I get to promote my products.

User magnets are the most effective technique to collect email addresses, HubSpot is the prime example of this.

Offering valuable incentives like exclusive content or discounts in exchange for email sign-ups has significantly boosted my connection rate.

@busmark_w_nika for newsletters, we mainly collect emails in exchange for some valuable content. Do not have something unique to share, just getting the knowledge people have shared here :)

@busmark_w_nika Thank you so much! Would mean the world if you would also consider notifications for our PH launch here (https://www.producthunt.com/prod...). Also Nika thanks just in general for sharing that Simon Sinek video, I actually incorporated it into my marketing video (which you'll see soon!!) for my product hunt launch. Instead of just focusing on the pain point & problem being solved, I threw in my story + why I made this product as well! Genuinely, that video changed the course of how i approached the PH launch so super thankful for that.

@busmark_w_nika "Yeah, of course depends on your target audience and the identikit of your ideal customer. In my experience i've tailored my targeting approach specifically for the social media marketing field. I mainly focus on content creators, influencers, and brands looking to boost their engagement. I use interest-based targeting to connect with users who are really into social media contests, giveaways, and raffles. Plus, I segment audiences based on their past interactions with similar content or their purchasing behaviors related to online marketing and promotions. About the reward to incetives, you could offer something that put them pressure to get it immediately, like a digital product ( Like a notion page or template with a personal guide, personal strategy, whatever you want) or a special discount for some product you are affiliate with and everything with a limit of time.
