  • What was the last comfort zone you decided to say goodbye to in business?

We have many inner obstacles, which might be hindering our progress. For me, it is especially not to ask for help. 😅 But I started asking for feedback from certain people which was quite uncomfortable. I got answers that changed some of my working patterns. I think this is the comfort zone I am trying to leave behind. What is the comfort zone (not only) in business you want to leave?

Having a Yes from everyone around me. Not anymore.

Very through-provoking question. I started finding people who would push back on my ideas, which opened my eyes.

I've said goodbye to the fear of having tough conversations with my co-founder, whether about equity, problems with the team or our relationship, personal matters, etc. These convos are just too crucial to keep waiting

@nathancovey wait, do you mean you split up? Or in the sense of more clear conversation?

@busmark_w_nika More clear conversation. A co-founder relationship is like a marriage. It is bound to have disagreements. If you bury things, they will come up later in nastier ways.

@kostyabolsh I like how fluent you are. Next time I would slightly add some effects or stock videos between parts demonstrating the situation. I think it would make it more diverse. It is about testing.

Getting feedbacks has to be something that i am not usually ready for. I never wanted to hear anything wrong but throughout the years as s founder I have started getting out of my comfort zone, talk to customer even meet some to grow the network and to understand the challenges.

@prem_saini1 So in other words: you are proactive in getting feedback, right? :) proactivity is a quite good trait.

Familiar and easy tasks are my comfort zone, but over time they can create a fixed mindset. That's why it's important to keep learning new things and step out of my comfort zone.

Great question Nika! The Marlee team discussed some of these topics on Friday as we looked at our team culture in the Marlee app & found a lot of our team has a low bias for the motivational trait that we call "Assertiveness". When you're low on assertiveness, you don't feel comfortable asserting boundaries and providing feedback when things upset you. This means you're less likely to offend or upset anyone (which is great) but it also means you tolerate discomfort for way too long & then you can tend to have an outburst out of nowhere when it all gets too much (which has definitely happened to me!) So my comfort zone I need to say goodbye to is being too tolerant!! Assert boundaries uncomfortably! 🤩

@emily_willis1 THIS! I have a problem with this. Sometimes I feel pressured and say Yes to things I do not want to. Any options how to do it? How can you be polite at the same time? Will be grateful :)

@busmark_w_nika Hi Nika, we have a blog on this topic that you may find helpful here: https://getmarlee.com/blog/const... Happy to demo the Marlee technology to you any time you're free as well, on a call. If you've answered questions on what motivates you and the person you're giving feedback to has also, you can ask Marlee "How can I provide constructive feedback to @Sara effectively?" (for eg) and Marlee lets you know Sara's communication style and how she is convinced about things so you can adapt the way you give feedback to suit each person. I use it all the time with the team I work with at Marlee - it's brilliant. I've found for team members where I'm experiencing conflict most often, I'm coming at projects in the complete opposite way compared to how they like to receive information, so it's no surprise conflict arises - I found I was overwhelming them with too much information.

I am with you on this one. I always tried to do everything by myself until I realized, I couldn't be everywhere doing everything alone at all times. It's a bit hard to let go off that mindset and that people genuinely like to help.

That's a very thought-provoking question. I began seeking out people who would challenge my ideas, which really opened my eyes. https://www.neighborlystl.com/

I'm constantly challenging myself with things I've never did before. All of them are out of comfort zone by definition. The older you get, the more difficult is to find what you are new to so far. So this becomes challenging itself. Not asking for help is a very common way to slow down and waste one's potential. I'm glad you are training yourself and mastering this art.
