They're known to attract business owners with sky high expectations with very low budgets.

@richw Yeah, it's basically a bottomless pit filled with 80% low quality freelancers who rush to complete tasks without building any kind of relationship with the client, and business owners who don't understand the value of strong relationships in business OR who have very small ambitions - nothing wrong with that but the pros want clients with ambition and a budget to match.

While Upwork and Fiverr are popular freelance platforms with many users, there are several reasons why some freelancers may avoid them: High competition: Upwork and Fiverr have large user bases, which means that there is often a lot of competition for jobs. This can make it difficult for new freelancers to find work and establish themselves on the platform. Low rates: Because there is so much competition on these platforms, some clients may be willing to pay lower rates to attract freelancers. This can make it difficult for freelancers to earn a fair wage for their work. Limited control: Freelancers on Upwork and Fiverr are often subject to the policies and rules set by the platform. This can limit their ability to negotiate terms with clients, set their own rates, or work outside of the platform. Commission fees: As you mentioned, both platforms charge commission fees on freelancers' earnings. This can reduce the amount of Make Money On Fiverr that freelancers take home for their work. Lack of security: Freelancers on these platforms may be more vulnerable to scams or non-payment from clients. While the platforms do offer some protections, they may not be sufficient in all cases. These factors can make it difficult for some freelancers to succeed on Upwork and Fiverr. However, it's worth noting that there are many successful freelancers who use these platforms to find work and build their businesses. Ultimately, the suitability of a platform will depend on the individual freelancer's goals, skills, and preferences.
