Why I think it's critical to do a pre-launch wait list site

There's lots of talk about if you're validated an idea if you haven't received a dollar yet. And while I agree, cash is king, before you even get there you need to:
* see if your idea resonates with anyone
* see if you can convince people to do a transaction of any type with you (aka get their email)
* see if you can find your target customers
* and learn how to talk to your customers
It's for these reasons I think it's a must to setup a pre-launch wait list site.
My experience is you can build a waiting list of hundreds and while doing that you learn how to hone your pitch.
Plus you get people who care about the problem you're solving for them who are very likely willing to be interviewed.
There's just a lot of wins to be had.
I wrote about one of my own experiences and lessons learned recently here: https://www.productfoundry.co/issues/issue-5-three-lessons-on-building-customer-empathy-and-doing-research-when-starting-a-new-saas-product
