Work life balance; do you prefer it to be day-to-day or seasonal?

As creatives, I think its easy for us to pour everything into our projects.. but then we must consider work/life balance or undoubtedly we will have little to keep pouring. Whats your method? do you balance weekly i.e weekends phones off. Or do you balance more in a seasonal way - stay focused for months back to back with a longer relief time. Tell me! What have you tried and what works for you?
