  • Would you join a hackathon for side-projects?

We currently don't have a dedicated space for collaborative tech endeavors in our area. So, I'm considering renting a space to organize a hackathon with a few friends (with whom I'm doing this already). The idea is to spend an evening and a night intensely working on one specific project, and then present the results at the end. Would you be interested in joining such an event if it were held nearby? I'd also greatly appreciate any tips or suggestions. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Hey, If its amazing to see your passion for side project, I'd love to hear more about your experience in respect of your own side projects. Could you spare about 5 minutes to share your thoughts? I'm aiming to gather insights from 1000-1500 or even more hustlers like you! If you are ok, I can send a link for more details.

If it's in my city, I'd love it. But unfortunately, my city is not the main one in Spain. On another note, I think online hackathons should be a thing too. I don't know if they exist but they will unblock the location problem.

@jherna Feel free to make a trip to Berlin βœŒοΈπŸ˜„ Again same question: Did you ever participated in an online hackathon? Would you like to?
I'm constantly thinking of new ideas and seeking for new challenges. Additionally, I pick things up quickly and can easily adjust to new situations.

@socketopp based in Berlin - feel free to come over πŸ˜‰ The thing with online hackathons is that there is nothing like a "price" / any money to win within our hackathon as everyone is working on own side projects. And there is also no budget (as devpost is charging money) as we don't have any sponsors or similar. So we really just wanna hang out with some cool indiemakers who are enthusiastic about building tech products - maybe ordering pizza - and in the end everyone's pitching what they built - that's it. And not sure if this also would work in an online format. What do you think? Did you ever participated in an online hackathon? Would you like to?

@luisrieke Maybe, could be a good way to network and meet other developers. Regarding what you said: "The thing with online hackathons is that there is nothing like a "price" / any money to win " I found these with nice prices and they're quite short as well. 1-3 days hackathons. https://educatehacks-2024.devpos... ($6,210 in prizes) https://hopperhacks2024.devpost.... ($12,228 in prizes) https://launchhacks-iv.devpost.com ( $20,000 in prizes)

@socketopp I meant in our hackathon there is nothing like a "price" - it's just a few friends meeting up, ordering pizza, working on side projects. Not sure if that format would work online. Pizza is missing haha.. πŸ•πŸ» But really cool hackathons you found there!!

@luisrieke I think it's definitely something you should push for in the Berlin tech hub! Ought to be some kind of Facebook group or similar where you can find guy's who'd be up for it in that local area? I would suggest reaching out to tech companies that would like host/ be a sponsor, they're usually pretty excited to do such things. Good luck!

@jonathantahiry no cash price - more like a fun little event for working on side projects - would something like this still be interesting for you?

@luisrieke It is interesting! But you need to emphasize on other core value. It could be an opportunity for people to connect, finish their project or launch a startup! Also, it depends on the type of people you are targeting. Get away from grant chasers! And best of luck buddy!

Personally, I think this is a fantastic idea. The development of hackathons is an investment in the future of technological progress and innovation, making them a key element of the modern IT world. I am currently studying the features of hackathon Cyprus. For any specialist, participation in a hackathon is an opportunity to test their maximum.
