GM friends and happy Friday!. Welcome back to yet another edition of the Leaderboard, today we have: Spotify's annual summary of everyone's questionable music tastes, a screen-recording tool that wants to take on the big dogs, an AI chaos machine for music, and of course, the top products. Let's dive in.
Cap: An open-source alternative to Loom.
I always root for the underdog, especially when they're challenging a heavyweight like Loom. Cap.so boasts a client list including Tesla, Microsoft, and Coinbase, which sets high expectations. While the promaise of self-hosted recordings might be a game-changer for big enterprises prioritizing security, my 10-minute trial left me underwhelmed. The user experience felt clunky compared to Loom's seamless simplicity. That said, Cap may appeal to organizations willing to trade a bit of polish for more control. For me, though, it served as a reminder of how well Loom has nailed the balance of ease and functionality.
Spotify Wrapped: An annual summary of everything you listed to
Spotify Wrapped is one of those end-of-year treats that feels personal and shared all at once. It’s a charming way to see what’s been keeping people company throughout the year, even if this year’s version felt a bit scaled back compared to past updates. The features didn’t quite have the same spark, but it’s still fun to peek into the musical worlds of friends and family. Wrapped shows how music captures where we’ve been, and sharing yours might just inspire someone to discover their next favorite artist. For me, it’s a reminder of how much music connects us, even in its simplest form.
AntiPlaylist: An AI-powered random music curator
AntiPlaylist takes a crack at music discovery by throwing curated playlists out the window and embracing randomness. It’s not about what you might like—it’s about what you’d never expect. Built in a week, it’s rough around the edges, but that’s part of its charm. It feels like rummaging through a record store and walking out with something weird and wonderful you didn’t know you wanted. Not everything will hit, but that’s kind of the fun—no algorithms, no overthinking, just music. If your playlists are feeling stale, AntiPlaylist might be the shake-up you didn’t know you needed.
