I'm proud to hunt doopoll today - a Welsh tech startup 🙌 With doopoll you can easily create polls, but the data comes in instantly - you can react with a new question straight away. Everything is editable and works on all devices without an app. Been pretty awesome to see them grow. @thedimmick helped me host the first Product Hunt meetup in Cardiff around a year ago now. He presented doopoll then (although think it was a different name then) and its come so far already! Steve & team - tell us about doopoll :)
Marc Thomas
@bentossell @thedimmick Thanks for hunting us. 👯 We've been up and running for a little while now but we've only been in public release for about a month. We started doopoll in response to a problem we were having with some clients in the creative communications agency we used to run. Basically, mid level managers' decisions about a project we were working on with them were getting overruled by senior management for really arbitrary reasons. That didn't seem helpful because the team had considered their choices based on really good info only to be overruled by a CEO's personal tastes. We (@thedimmick, @sgoudie and I) built a prototype of doopoll in 4 days and it turns out a lot of people had similar problems that doopoll could solve. We're now in use in over 150 cities worldwide and have great users of all shapes and sizes. It's been so much fun so far. So pumped to be on product hunt today. ✌️🍵👯

Hm, proud polling Welsh startup. Are you gonna doopoll to exit the Great Britain? @bentossell @thedimmick
Ben Tossell
@kuolldev @thedimmick what a terrible idea
Ben Tossell
@kuolldev @thedimmick @doopoll yeah, unfortunately.
Steve Dimmick
@bentossell Cheers for hunting! As @iammarcthomas mentioned, we're a global business based out of Cardiff, Wales. People have created polls on 6 continents (damn those Antarticans!) and we've had tens of thousands of people responding. We've grown the team from the 3 co-founders, with staff from Seville and Boston and in @rglover (of themeteorchef.com fame) we're in Chicago too. Between the six of us we speak five languages, so feel free to post up questions in English, French, German, Spanish or Welsh! A key differentiator for us is getting honest opinion from respondents. doopoll's completely anonymous; no app to download, no requests for emails or phone numbers, just click a link and provide your feedback. For today any questions on the product will be looked after by @sgoudie, anything around consumer usage, marketing and strategy by @iammarcthomas and enterprise and aob by me @thedimmick. So, AMAs all round... what do you wanna know?
Niv Dror
Very very cool GIF 👏👏
Marc Thomas
@nivo0o0 Thanks. Flashing GIFs are my spirit animal. Our Twitter feed is full of them Niv.
Niv Dror
@iammarcthomas yes. brilliant response.
Steve Dimmick
@nivo0o0 cheers, Niv. KNEW you'd like that one :)
Neil Cocker
Welcome to PH, gents. Great to see Welsh startups on here. I have two questions: 1 How does Doopoll differ from Typeform, Survey Monkey etc? 2 How did you celebrate Wales' magnificence in the recent European Championships (soccer, for our transatlantic chums!)
Marc Thomas
@neilcocker Diolch (thanks in Welsh for anyone who's uninitiated 😅). So thanks for the questions. 1) How do we differ from SurveyMonkey and Typeform etc? Actually we get asked this a lot. So one of the main points that we differentiate on is the anonymity of a poll. We never ask anyone for a login or a name. We believe that if you take the person's name and ID away from their response, they'll give a more honest response. That leads to better feedback. Also, we don't allow text entry. Research shows that when you ask someone to articulate their thoughts, they can actually find it quite difficult. The brain has separate parts that process language and decision making. 2) Celebrating Welsh football – We're always celebrating something about Wales. There's certainly been an increased use of the Welsh language here recently. Also our office looks right out over the route that the parade bus came on the other day. We were all dangling out of fourth storey windows cheering 🎉
Nick Clement
Well done fellow Taffs, this is looking swish. Good luck indeed. :)
Steve Dimmick
@nickclement Whilst as a proud Welshman, I'd love for us to take all the credit, truth is we're 33% Welsh, 33% Americans, 17% Spanish and 17% English... 100% Global. The platform's currently available in French, Welsh and English (more languages coming soon!).
Marc Thomas
@nickclement @thedimmick Height of the Gwent valley ;)
Amie Lockwood
Lot's of Welsh love going on here today - great to see. Have you got any examples of how this could be used in a training environment to gather feedback from delegates?
Marc Thomas
@amienlockwood Hey Amie, for sure! So a couple of things here: 1) A poll template that you can use for 'Did you understand today's lecture' but obvs that can be applied to training contexts too: https://app.doopoll.co/poll/CWTL... 2) A lot of our users use doopoll for live events. There's some info here: http://doopoll.co/sector/event/ Happy to send you some other examples if you'd like?
Marc Thomas
@amienlockwood @mike_stone can give you some examples.
Mike Stone
@amienlockwood @iammarcthomas Hi there Amie! Thanks for your question. Here are a few starter polls to get you going in the right direction. Just click the button at the top to have these polls recreated into your account. Here are the templates: dpll.co/paneldiscussion, dpll.co/delegatefeedback, dpll.co/posteventfeedback, dpll.co/eventexpectations
Amie Lockwood
@mike_stone @iammarcthomas They look really good will definitely try you guys out during my next course.
Mike Stone
@amienlockwood @iammarcthomas My pleasure, Aime! Always feel free to reach out if you need some more ideas :)
Michael Mason
@thedimmick @markthomas @sgoudie really cool product! Any plans to make it possible to embed a poll in another website? Would be great for quick in-app feedback.
Sam Goudie
@mjmasn Hi Michael, thanks for the kind words! Embeddable polls are something we're currently working on. Let me know if you have any opinions on how you would like to use this feature. We're also working on our public API at present which will allow you to build your own integration for in app feedback.
Lee Driscoll
Hey guys, can I get clarity on the Powerups please? I get the Theme and Pro Pack, but when would the Team Pack be needed?
Steve Dimmick
@leedriscoll Hey Lee, Good to hear from you. Nice to see you found the powerups page (for anyone else http://doopoll.co/powerups/). So, some of the main use cases for the team pack at the moment are collaborating to create polls in multiple languages. For example, during the Euros one of our team could write a poll in English about the quarter finalists. They could then add another team member as a collaborator and that team member could create a duplicate poll in Welsh and simply translate the questions right away, safe in the knowledge that the poll structure and layout would be the same for everyone. They could then add another collaborator who could duplicate again and translate the poll to French. And so on... Another use case is when you have multiple topics to cover in a single poll. For instance if we were to send a poll to all our users I could create the poll and pop in some questions about Enterprise usage. I then add Marc and Sam as collaborators and they can add questions on Consumer usage and the Product sides of things accordingly. Hope that helps!
Tom Gallard
Hi doopoll. Amazing product. Really excited to see what's next for doopoll. Would you be able to give us an insight into what's coming in the next few months (as long as it's not too top secret)?
Sam Goudie
@tomgallard Thanks Tom, and of course! We have a pretty big overhaul of our editor coming in the next few weeks which will make it even easier to create polls quickly and react to data. We're also going to be releasing our API into a public beta. We're really excited to see what people make with that! What would you like to see from doopoll in the next few months?
Benjy Stanton
Hey doopoll, great to see a Welsh start-up on here! I’ve been wondering how you feel about Twitter Polls? How would I convince someone to use doopoll instead of something native to Twitter?
Marc Thomas
@benjystanton Nice question Benjy. Twitter polls are great for single questions when you're already a Twitter user. But still, a lot of people don't fit that profile. One of the things about doopoll is that you can add more questions to the same poll in real time – that's cool because it means you don't have to try to get a user to continually interact with your timeline. They just load a link and new questions appear as soon as they're added. Imagine being sat in front of your TV/Computer interacting with a live stream in real time. We're already working with television production companies to make this a reality.
Steve Dimmick
@benjystanton Just to add, what @tdd and the team at twitter have done with twitter polls is great: it's not always an either or scenario :) We're working really hard to ensure doopoll plays real nice with twitter and other social channels.
Craig Lockwood
Hey Doopoll team - I love the interface, will this ever become a native mobile app?
Sam Goudie
@craiginwales This is an interesting question! We'll won't ever require users to download a native app to answer a poll, but we have looked at some use cases for poll creators, such us a remote for controlling live results, or reporting on polls. Is there a specific use case that you would require a native version of doopoll for? Glad you like the interface! The next iteration is going to be even better!
Alex Morris
@thedimmick nice one fella! something very close to my heart at the moment, building survey tools :) we should chat about integrating doopoll with @dartemail too
Steve Dimmick
@aexmo @dartemail That would be nice, verrrry nice. Gonna bring in @sgoudie to talk a little about API collaboration.
Alex Morris
@thedimmick @dartemail @sgoudie nice one. v2.0 is a matter of weeks off, tonnes of new stuff and potential to hook into API's also
Sam Goudie
@aexmo @thedimmick @dartemail Sounds great! The public beta for our API launches in the next few months. Let's chat! DM me with your contact details and we'll find a time.
Owen Richards
Hey fellow South Walians. Lot of Welsh love here this morning. Love the UI - interested in how a creative agency (or any agency really) could use this for a smoother workflow? Do you have other agencies doing this for better client relationships or for internal use?
Marc Thomas
@owenthetwit Hey Owen. We have already have some great users in creative agencies. There are a lot of uses for doopoll in that area. Here's an example of a poll that you can use to measure the success of a campaign: https://app.doopoll.co/poll/MJTX... You can start with this poll by clicking the 'Create this poll for me' button and start using it as a template.
Steve Dimmick
@owenthetwit Just to add; this was actually how doopoll came about. @iammarcthomas, @sgoudie and I were running a creative agency and needed something light and simple that we could send to a client's Marketing Director and have them pass on to the entire business to get EVERYBODY'S opinion and input.
Sam Goudie
@owenthetwit ❤️ 🙌 Glad you love the UI! We want people to enjoy using doopoll, not finding it a chore!
Marc Thomas
@owenthetwit Let me know if you want some more examples. Happy to provide ✌️
Mike rudge
It seems as though there are many (MANY) different solutions to the idea of being able to get questions live. Particularly Google Slides now has live questions built right in. What do you think is going to the 'hook' that makes people say... "Yeah but it ain't doopoll"
Sam Goudie
@mike_rudge Great question Mike. Well, we're definitely the fastest feedback tool out there right now :) Pretty soon you'll be able to use our API to interface with just about anything too! We've also put a lot of work into making sure doopoll is actually enjoyable to use. Plus our support team is pretty awesome if we say so ourselves :)
Gareth I. Jones
Congratulations team, and Steve on your birthday launch! Question - how easy is it to export the data into a less abstract format for other uses?
Marc Thomas
@gareth_i_jones Hey Gareth. Nice one. We currently offer a few different options for getting results out of doopoll. Most people prefer to use our live results view which updates in real time and gives you a great indication right away of what people think. That looks like this: Or alternatively, we offer a report view which lets you dig into a little bit more detail: Does that help?
Gareth I. Jones
@iammarcthomas That's great, thanks Marc. I love the flexibility on the free account too, I might just need to give that a try within our team as part of our next quarter's reporting.
Marc Thomas
@gareth_i_jones For sure. Don't forget that you can also get a free month of any/all the powerups with HEYPRODUCTHUNT as a code at the signup. That way you can give the team powerup a go too and collaborate with up to 5 members (and share any other powerups you might have enabled with them too)
Anjali Ramachandran
Happy birthday @thedimmick & congrats on getting @doopoll on @producthunt today! How is it different from sli.do (which many London events use)?
Marc Thomas
@anjali28 @thedimmick @doopoll @producthunt Anjali, thanks for the question. doopoll is not only a platform for running your live event although a lot of our users already use it for that. We love the idea that you can use doopoll in front of an audience of thousands (we've done live TV votes already) but also that small businesses can create polls that'll help them decide on their strategy for the future, or equally, kids being able to tell teachers anonymously that they're having problem getting the content of a lesson. That's really where we differ from other products that focus solely on events – everywhere you go, there are decision making processes that would benefit from giving people a voice and letting them answer easily. Hope that helps?
Paul Manwaring
Reviewed the app for you, i liked the homepage, nice design but I did feel the dashboard could be improved slightly as it was easy to access the sharing URL for the polls. Looking forward to more features! Here it is - https://drive.google.com/file/d/...
Marc Thomas
@outsprung Paul, this is really useful. Thanks so much. I passed this on to our product team – they might be in touch in the week.
Paul Manwaring
@iammarcthomas Glad you found it of some use and please feel free to followup with any questions, PH community has given me so many great resources, apps and tools to use so I like to pay it back with this ;)
Marc Thomas
We've also got a discount code Product Hunters. You can get 1 month free of any/all of our powerups using the code HEYPRODUCTHUNT at the signup: https://app.doopoll.co/create-ac...
Dewi Eirig
We at Awr Cymru hope to use doopoll in the future Penblwydd Hapus @thedimmick

@dewieirig @thedimmick Great to hear it Dewi!
