Hey Product Hunt 👋 For the past months @anthilemoon and I have been working on a Chrome Extension to help you turn the content you consume into long-term knowledge. We noticed that apps in the field such as Anki didn't have a very sleek design, and they didn't feel very fun or rewarding to use. So we built Carden with design in mind and paired it with gamification using points and levels to encourage you to practice, using a plant theme 🌱 Here are some of its features: 🔬 Practice using spaced repetition based on the evidence-based SM2 algorithm ✏️ Create flashcards in context whenever you read something interesting 🗄️ Organize your flashcards into decks 🏆 Collect points and level up as you practice and grow your knowledge 🧩 Cross-compatible with apps like Anki, Quizlet, Brainscape, and more 📦 Import and export flashcards as .txt and .csv files 📊 View and download in-depth stats ...and much more! We have also open sourced the entire code of the extension to encourage anyone to add even more features, to self-host, or even make their own flashcard app! Feel free to check it out on GitHub.

Congrats on the launch! The product is interesting, but I'm wondering how it can compete with let's say quizlet for this price? The concept is very cool but I'm curious to know what's the big added value

@rubenwolff You can use it for free and it's pretty much the same features just with the 100 card and 3 deck limit. You can also self-host it using the code from GitHub and have all the features for free. The price is just for convenience, it covers the server costs for us plus it takes into account the open source side of it :) The big added value might just be the gamification aspect, being able to create flashcards in context while you're browsing the web, getting notified when you have a new session available, being able to practice without having to open a website, you can do it anywhere, etc. It's special in its own way I guess :P

@abasa We had a web app initially, but we decided that the main value of Carden was creating flashcards contextually while reading an article, blog post, etc. On top of that the extension notifies you whenever you have a new session, and it lets you practice without disrupting what you're doing by overlaying the flashcards on top of the current website. We might release the web version eventually though if there's enough interest :)

Getting this message and can't run the app: The app is requesting access to sensitive info in your Google Account. Until the developer (cardenteam@googlegroups.com) verifies this app with Google, you shouldn't use it.

@googlegroups @ovonhauske1 Ahh, the consent screen shouldn't show this since we don't actually require any sensitive scopes (& it says so in the dashboard too). I've made an update that should fix this though, hopefully will be out soon :)

Anything that helps with learning key concepts or retaining information ie. book notes through spaced repetition is a plus! Great work!!!
