Not being argumentative just for the sake of it here... BUT... what good does punishing regular Russian citizens achieve?
Carlo Badini
@mickc79 I've heard this argument a lot. And I really don't understand where you're coming from. My friends have to hide in basements in Kiev while the Russian army bombs the whole city and you are concerned how the western sanctions will hit the Russian economy? As someone has said elsewhere: "The only real chance to stop the war is for someone to overthrow the mad aggressor - it will be either someone in his inner circle or the Russian people. But you might be surprised to learn that 60% of population in Russia directly supports the war, so it is OK if they have to feel a bit uncomfortable. Everybody in Russia should absolutely be targeted with sanctions and feel the urgency to act until this stops." Or as someone else put it: "Unless there’s a button that Ukrainians can click to prevent a rocket strike on their apartment building, there shouldn’t be any button to click through this block. As someone who has had to flee Ukraine and has friends and family with missiles striking in their neighborhood, I can assure you that the inconvenience of having a service blocked pales in comparison to the fear I hear in people’s voices and messages from Ukraine."

@mickc79 The world need Russian citizens to drop what they are doing right now and get rid of Putin. It's that simple. Putin is destroying a country in front of our eyes, killing thousands of people in the process. What is hard to understand?

@carlobadini Hey thanks for the reply. The fact that you hear this argument a lot alongside the number of upvotes my comment has had would indicate that - like most things - this issue isn't as black and white as you might like it to be. You've stated a few things and largely I agree: - Putin is a madman and needs stopped. Yup, totally agree. - What's happening in The Ukraine is atrocious. Yup, I totally TOTALLY agree My take on this is that regular Russians can't have any effect on their insane leader. I mean I live in the UK and OUR leaders are crazy and we, "The People" can't do jack about it, so what hope do regular Russians have against that gangster. murdering lunatic. Further, even if your 60% statistic is true (which is almost certainly isn't) then that still leaves nearly half the population. What's going on is atrocious and it's causing me anxiety even from the relative safety of my home in the UK, but I disagree that blanket punishing everyone in Russia is the right move. For every A-Hole that this might hurt, there might also be a mother trying to buy supplies for her baby who might also get hurt - an extreme analogy but the point is valid.
Primer
@mhangaard "It's that simple" really? And how do you suggest the largely impoverished Russian civilians do that against this lunatic? I think the Oligarchs and the super rich need to step up, definitely. Saying that the Russian citizens getting rid of Putin is "that simple" is ludicrous.

Do you mind creating "Redirect USA" in order to punish all regular USA citizens for the wars that their government created in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia and the humanitarian crisis and lose of life associated with those? What about "Redirect Israel" to punish regular Israeli citizens for their government's treatment of the Palestinian people? Regular citizens don't have anything to do with the horrible things their dictatorial people in power are doing. What do you think a regular working class citizen who lives paycheck to paycheck and needs to feed a family of 5 is going to do? Go and overthrow a government who holds all the power and weapons and risk the wellbeing and the wellbeing of their family? We can barely achieve anything when protesting in the West, do you think that you'd have better luck if you go protest against a dictatorial regime? I'm sure you have good intentions, but in my opinion this is a bad on this horrible situation. This app only hurts regular citizens whilst the people that actually hold the power won't even notice.
John Waywhick
@kris_bogdanov @carlobadini Of course he does mind creating “Redirect USA”! Are you out of your goddamn mind? What is Iraq, Syria? Is that even a country? I mean, it is not like millions of civilians, men, women & kids died because of US just for nothing, right? I mean, it is not like they wanted to live, have careers & peaceful lives, unlike people in Ukraine, right? There were only terrorists over there, not average civilians, who had aspirations, ambitions & bright hopes. At the of the day, a bunch of Muslims died, who cares really? I am sure they are even better off lying in the ground, instead of living in their shithole-country no one has ever heard of. Ukraine is a very different case. As a Russian, I am against the war. I support anyone’s efforts to help invaded countries. But this right here is pure hypocrisy, pure bullshit. Where were you when millions of innocent people died in Iraq, Syria, Palestine? Did you put a Syrian/Iraq/Palestine flag on your profile pics? Not even talking about creating “Redirect USA”, did you even think about doing something, even making a f*cking post? You all went silent, including you. Millions of Muslims died for literally nothing, no single thought/action. But no, when something happens to non-Muslim countries, everyone suddenly starts to care. You know why? Because nobody does when Muslims die. Everyone is following a trend, set by US and the rest of the world. It is so cool right now to hate on Russia for what it’s doing(which is justified, although not against the regular population). Yay, let’s put a Ukrainian flag & pour vodka onto the streets! This will surely have a major impact, right? You are just a hypocrite, just like the rest of people, following the trend & feeding your ego. Look at me, I am such a nice person. People are going to love me! If you want it to look sincere, keep that same energy for all other conflicts. Far more innocent people died in Iraq&Syria from the hands of US government, than in Ukraine, but I am 10000% sure you did absolutely nothing. F you and the likes of you, without respect. P.S And for you & the rest of hypocrites, saying Russians are to be blamed for what’s happening, we live in a very, very different countries. Simply going to protests will cost you at least a few years of possible sentence. This ain’t US or Ukraine. Before judging people for not risking their lives & families to stop this, come down here and see what happens. I will be my PLEASURE to assist you in doing that.

Stop this nonesense already! What does an average user/developer has to do with geopolitical conflict in some remote region?
Andreas Duess
@sulemanelahi2 Russian troll alert
Sabastian Auth
@sulemanelahi2 @andreasduess Not everybody who dissents with you is a Russian troll. Some people just do not like politicizing every aspect of life. This is a product launch platform. It is not a place to share useless, regurgitated, nonsensical, political trash. There is a platform for such a thing: Twitter.

@carlobadini and I have been working on Redirect Russia for the past few days. Like so many, we were absolutely shocked by the Russian attack on Ukraine. Having family in Kiev, this invasion affects my co-founder Carlo personally, and like so many -- we felt absolutely powerless in the face of this geopolitical drama. With Redirect Russia, we want to do our small part to support the western sanctions against Russia. With one line of code anyone can easily block traffic from Russia. Effectively shutting Russia off from the rest of the world. Let’s hope that all sanctions combined bring Putin and his regime to their knees! If you manage a website, please consider installing the script! It's asynchronous, meaning that it shouldn't affect the page load time, and it has a cryptographically secure SRI Hash so you know that we can't meddle with the open source script.

@anandchowdhary I just read about how ERP solution providers did stop their service. This is counter productive and I believe you and these companies use this conflict for very cheap publicity or advertising. So shame on you, shame on SAP, shame on Salesforce. Civil society should always make a better example than politics.
Alexo
If you have decided to block Russian people, It turns out that 12,000 Russians (after today protests) absolutely in vain will go to prison for a month or more for participating in protests against the war in Ukraine. If you have decided that you have the right to punish ordinary people for the actions of the government, to punish indiscriminately, including those who want peace, then you are no better than Putin and his henchmen in oppressing other nations and inciting ethnic hatred. You should be ashamed. Translate from Russian this post of latest independent Russian media https://meduza.io/feature/2022/0... You should know, all mindfull Russians protest against the war. Think about your behavior. Instead useless “sanctions”, support Russians who wants to stop the war. If you want the peace, make the peace!

@anandchowdhary Since you understand geopolitics, I think you must know that there is a theory that a small country bordering a big country must not oppose this big country in terms of its political inclination, otherwise it will only bring about war. Like Canada and the United States, like China and Southeast Asian countries. But in fact, this kind of geopolitics is not obvious now. There are some small countries near Russia and China that are very weak but strongly oppose the neighboring big countries. Can you think of why? The United States supports this approach and has a special term called the ulcer face strategy. Please use your product thinking and bring it into Russia. If you are a Russian, can you tolerate the four expansions of NATO, or even deploy an anti-missile system in a country bordering you, and this bordering country has a strong political inclination against it. Russian? It has even banned ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine from participating in politics since 2014, and has continuously bombarded ethnic minorities in their own country since 2016. In addition, the Ukrainian people’s current situation is largely self-inflicted. The first point is that as a nuclear-armed country, Ukraine listened to the advice of the "free world" and eliminated its own nuclear weapons. Otherwise, if Ukraine now has nuclear weapons, would Russia dare to start a war? Second, as the heavy industrial production base of the former Soviet Union, I have absolutely no idea why they were able to sell their property so empty that they changed from an industrial country to an agricultural country, and even became a de facto European womb because of poverty. The third point, yes, the people elected a comedian as the president, and this president stupidly chose to make the country join NATO. This is intolerable for Russia, and it shows that the president has no political wisdom. So, I regret what happened to your friend, but not because of Russia, but because of Ukraine itself, NATO, and the United States.

@mad_lifer do you actually read the stuff you write?? That’s like blaming a little girl for “looking too pretty” when someone rapes her!! If Russia is justified in starting a war against Ukraine, because “Ukraine was threatening Russia”, then all Western countries have been justified for years in starting a war against Russia because “Russia is threatening us”!!
MadLifer
@anna_0x I don't know what social media is telling you but anyone who pays attention to the facts and thinks independently should know what's going on right now. You are not living in paradise, politics world is a jungle. The fact is that a sinking ship is saving itself by pulling the barnacles off the hull and applying a layer of anti-rust paint. Other ships that gloat over their misfortune say: "Barnacles are life too". Also, I think I've made it clear that Ukraine had the opportunity to be another giant ship, but was tricked into giving up nuclear weapons and became a tool to stop the other giant ship. Putting their national security hopes on their NATO/EU neighbors who have been applying for years and not allowed to join? they asked for it. think about it and stop talking stupid plz.

Hello, Anand! Thank you for your support! Whole world should block russia right now. The purpose of it is to make clear to russian people that what they are told on TV is a lie, the crazy propaganda putin do to have support. Russians should realise that sth is probably wrong when ALL world are blocking them, sick for truth and finally protest against the war! Now they don’t understand what’s going on, our own relatives in russia don’t believe us or just say “we can’t do nothing”. BUT THEY CAN!
Konstantin Dokcuhaev
@alinama so let me clarify. You want to block Russia from everywhere so that we can understand TV is a lie. How could it help? There's no any media here that can speak openly and you want to block everything else.
Carlo Badini
@alinama @marfapr I totally understand your frustration.
Lucas Pilzen
Hey there, we did literally the same a few days ago. A lot of people gave us negative feedback, because Russian people are not to blame but the government. Often the problem is, that through their Putin's propaganda, they have no idea what's really going on. Can you maybe translate your message in Russian and add links to make Russian people understand what's happening and how to support? We changed our approach too and I think that'd be even more awesome! Cheers and thanks for doing something! 🇺🇦♥️
Carlo Badini
@lucas_pilzen1 I actually think its a really fair point. We should definitely translate the copy to Russian. Will do this asap. Where did you re-direct the traffic to for Russians to get more information?
Lucas Pilzen
@carlobadini we linked https://helpukrainewin.org/ because we also lacked that resource. Maybe we can set up a Notion Board and post it here to collect this very information? Because unfortunately, I don't know too many people that speak Russian...
Carlo Badini
@lucas_pilzen1 We now link to https://t.me/meduzalive/53270 It's apparently one of the very few remaining independent news sources in Russia...
Lucas Pilzen
@carlobadini Nice, will do the same!
Irina Heinz
Hate only generates more hatred. Your project is aimed at inciting national hatred. There is no need to put Putin and the Russians on the same level, you don't think that all Germans were fascists like Hitler, do you?
Carlo Badini
@irina_heinz But we literally say "due to the *Putin-initiated* war". We absolutely don't have anything against Russians. Taking part in the sanctions has nothing to do with national hatred, as you put it.
