A web app that allows you to mass download, remove or downsize Gmail attachments with ease. You can free up your Google storage and keep your emails intact.
Hello ProductHunt!
I have a full-time job, but love building productivity tools in my spare time. Some time ago, my dad told me that his Gmail account was full and asked whether I could help. I built a simple app for him, and later decided to turn it into a product.
Unattach is a simple desktop app for downloading and optionally removing Gmail attachments from many emails at once. You can use it to free up your Google storage, which is shared between Gmail, Photos and other Google apps. For many, using Unattach is cheaper than buying more Google storage.
Major Features:
- Works on Windows, macOS and Ubuntu.
- Verified by Google to comply with all the required data handling and privacy rules.
- Easily find original email based on downloaded attachment, and vice versa.
- Shared source, so you can modify it for personal use or contribute.
- Backup whole emails, run at regular intervals, custom filename scheme, and more!
🙏 I would love to get your feedback and I’m happy to answer any questions!

I've been using it for years, from when it was still called slimbox. And I didn't hesitate to buy when it wasn't free anymore. I send and and recieve a lot of big attachments. I regularly free up my Gmail storage with it. And I can still find my attachments, should I need them.
@peyck Hi Peter, I'm very glad to hear that the app is working well for you. Thank you for your support!

It should be noted that this fantastic tool makes it also possible to bulk-detach and download only the attachments from your Gmail e-mails, while keeping the actual emails all on the Gmail server in your mailbox. So it is not even necessary to download your emails and store them locally. You can leave them all in your Gmail mailbox while freeing up space by mass-deleting (and downloading) only the attachments.
@davidg2p Hi David, thank you for pointing this out and for your continuing support!

Great and simple product. I have done it before using cumbersome Thunderbird extensions, but with a complex a tedious process, as it wouldn't work for more than a handful of messages at a time.
This one works flawlessly.
@decio_yokota Hi Decio, great to know that the app is working as intended. Thank you for your support!

Excellent product that lets you manage your google space more easily. Google makes it hard to find and remove large attachments without removing the emails they're in (that's on purpose--they want to sell you more disk space). Unattach lets you get around this and detach large attachments in a way that lets you store them on your local disk but still linked to your email. Highly recommended.
