the push when it flips from Always On back to sleepy is a nice touch. can the phone also show battery level while the Mac is unplugged?
@neerajnathany glade you liked it, yes it does.
The agent status is the part I'd want to understand first. When a supported agent needs input, does the phone just get a push that it needs me, or can I actually answer it from the phone? And how does AfterLid tell idle from busy for each agent — is that a per-agent integration, or does it watch something on the Mac?
@jcbuilds Yes you can act from the phone. With Pro and a linked, online Mac, you can open the notification to approve or deny a supported action and review included file-change previews. Supported fixed-choice questions can also be answered there, free-text replies aren’t supported yet.
For status, AfterLid uses provider-specific hooks on your Mac to report agent activity. For supported CLI sessions without a recent hook signal, it falls back to local process activity. Hook signals take priority. “Idle” indicates inactivity it can follow completion, interruption or failure.
Mine stays on for scheduled tasks in the Claude desktop app, one at 7:30 and one at 8pm, and they only run if the Mac is awake with the app open. Can Always On be set for a time window, say 7 to 8am, instead of switched on by hand?
I leave long local builds and model runs going and walk away from the laptop all the time, so this one hits home. I like that the Mac makes the battery and thermal calls instead of the phone overriding them. When it hits a thermal limit mid-task, does it pause the job or just warn you?
@anirudh_madhavan It ends the Always On session and restores normal macOS sleep behavior. It doesn’t pause or checkpoint the job itself. With the lid closed, the Mac can then sleep, which may interrupt the task. So it actively stops keeping the Mac awake, rather than just showing a warning.
Plus we send a push notification on your device letting you the state has changed from Always On to Sleepy
A phone status check sounds handy for a long build. Sometimes you just want to know whether it finished without opening a remote desktop session.
@oleksii_sekundant Thanks, Oleksii. That's the use case I had in mind: a quick check on your Mac and connected agents without opening a remote desktop session. You also get a push notification when a supported agent needs your input. And you can see whether each agent is idle or busy, so you know when a task is done.
