An animated pixel-art map of the solar system with every body at its real current position, computed from published orbital elements rather than copied from a list. Zoom from the Sun to the Kuiper belt, browse 171 catalogued objects with sourced facts, and see what the sky is doing for the next six months. Every rock is also for sale: claim an asteroid for $5, keep it forever, name it whatever you like. A name here is shown on AstraPixels only, and is not an IAU designation.

AstraPixels is a pixel-art map of the solar system where everything is where it actually is. Positions are computed from published orbital elements with astronomy-engine, not copied from a list, so the map you open is the sky you are standing under. You can wind time forward a week, flip to true scale to see how much the map is lying to you, and open any of 171 bodies for its sourced facts and its position right now.
The other half is that every body is also for sale. An asteroid is $5, once, kept forever. A moon is $49. The Sun is leased.
I built the commercial side around the three ways a Million Dollar Homepage clone
normally dies:
- Inventory sells out, or never does. The main belt is 3,000 procedurally generated rocks, so there is a $5 floor that cannot sell out, while the things that are genuinely scarce (the Sun, the eight planet skins, the comets) are leased rather than sold.
- Nobody ever comes back. So it is an astronomy tool first. Real positions, and a sky-events page that computes the next six months of conjunctions, oppositions, meteor showers and eclipses.
- Link rot. 22% of the original's links died within a decade. Links here are checked monthly, and three failures turn the rock into a visibly decaying derelict sprite before it recycles back into inventory.
One thing I want to be blunt about, because the resemblance is unavoidable: a name you put on a body is shown on AstraPixels and nowhere else. It is not an IAU designation, it is not submitted to anybody, and no observatory will recognise it. Official minor planet names are assigned by the IAU and cannot be bought. That disclosure is on every page that shows a custom name, not buried in the terms.
There is no sign-up. Stripe asks for your email and that is the whole account system.
I would rather have your criticism than your upvote. The thing I am least sure about is whether the map reads as a toy or as an instrument, so tell me which one it looked like in the first five seconds.
I could not find elliptical path of earth around sun. 😕

The pixel art style makes space feel approachable rather than overwhelming. When you claim and name an asteroid, does the custom name show up when other visitors zoom into that part of the map, or is it private to your session?

Opened on my phone half-asleep. First glance: toy vibe (cute pixels). Then I hit time scrub + true scale and it clicked—this is an instrument. Sky events page is handy. Naming/sales bit feels like optional noise to me. Mobile zoom a tad twitchy, but I kept poking.

I think this is weak. I'd make graphics actually better. Poor graphics stopped me from digging deeper.
