Backtrack originally came into being in 2019, as a side project, on our flight home from SF after a rough VC meeting. There was no way to record and remember moments after they had already happened. Fast forward to today, with a successful V1 Product Hunt launch & a product with a strong heart beat, we knew it was time to give the community what they wanted and deserved. Backtrack 2.0 is finally live on Product Hunt. It's a MacOS app that locally records your screen and audio (backwards) to catch those unexpected moments. There's a few things to know: 1. It records backwards - the signal to noise ratio in Backtrack is very high since we let you record backwards, giving you control over what to save. 2. It's 100% local recording - all recording is done locally on your Mac and we take it incredibly seriously. 3. Export your data - after creating a recording you can export your data and decide what to do with it. You aren't forced into anything. 4. Know your recording laws - just like with regular meeting recorders or specific interactions, know ahead of time if you need to properly disclose you're recording. We've worked around the clock this last year to bring the community exciting new features in the app like: - Internal Audio - Screen Recording - Transcription - Integrations & more! I have been one of the lucky early adopters of Backtrack -- and it has become my memory magic maker. It has literally changed my workflow and ability to give more attention during meetings. I don't have to remember to record anything (which is literal GOLD for me), it allows me to capture how much of the meeting I want and I can choose who gets access to it. I cancelled a more well known competitor who just didn't stack up after our team tried Backtrack. Huge congrats to Hunter and Jordan -- if you don't know them, they're also amazing humans in addition to brilliant creators.

Nice product, upvoted!😊 I have a question, it says "...including Slack Huddles, Zoom, Teams, or in-person meeting", i couldn't see any information about in-person part. Can you explain it more? There are very few in-person meeting products on the market, that's why I want to learn it more 😊 Kudos to team 👋

@seymaalan I’d love to explain. Backtrack can record in 3 ways: 1) Speakers 2) Screen 3) Microphone Let’s say you have an in-person meeting. You can leave your laptop open during it and simply set it to capture microphone. Don’t worry, you can change what you’d like to save AFTER the conversation!

Very interesting concept, how does this compare to tools like Rewind.ai? Is the difference just the use case or are the recordings just big in size? Does this also mean that backtrack automatically records everything up to 5 hours in the past, and if so how does this affect the battery? I like the idea, but if it comes at the cost of my battery life I will have to pass.

@dmnk Great questions! We've done a lot work to make sure files are small and the app isn't resource heavy. That means the effect on your battery is minimal. Likewise, you can change how long you set your Backtrack to record for minimizing it even further if you want to. One our users actually put together a piece comparing us to a tool like Rewind and it makes for a great read with a fair comparison: https://www.allenn.me/posts/back... @jordanlwalkerrr Thank you so much! What I really dislike about rewind is for one the insane pricing, but even worse, their philosophy. The tool encourages a bad environment, where your progress can just get lost and you should be just "rewinding" if there is anything you are looking for... Not only is their OCR technology not that great (yet) it also crushed my battery life... and for that I am supposed to pay? It just doesn't make sense to me, but I liked the idea of being able to recall the past x hours just for reference and this seems to hit the mark quite well. However, I am still surprised that the tool should be less battery draining, since in the end you are still recording everything, the only difference is that it is discarded unless I trigger the record, but isn't the recording part itself the most draining part of this type of tool? Will definitely give it a shot though.
