Hi Product Hunters! It’s Sasha here, creator of Coding Rooms! We’re so excited to finally launch on Product Hunt! Over the past few months, we’ve helped over 500 educators in more than 100 universities and K-12 schools, across 16 countries, teach programming remotely and in the classroom. We hope that through this launch, you all will help us to reach many more! In my experience teaching programming, I always had the same issue -- there was no way for me to see what my students were coding, if they were engaged, and what their problems were. This is why we built Coding Rooms -- and with thousands of educators around the world teaching remotely, where this problem is even more challenging to solve, we believe this product is needed now more than ever. Here is a quick overview of our offering: 👨‍💻 Live coding dashboard Watch and help all of your students with their code in real-time, in a single dashboard. We help to instantly answer questions like “are my students engaged,” “do they understand the lesson,” and “what do my students need help with?” When students have issues, they can receive instant (and private) feedback and help from you. 🚨 Error tracking and student engagement Our real-time error tracking system alerts you of your students’ compile, syntax, and runtime errors to ensure you can provide help when your students need it the most. You can also see when your student was last active based on their typing and code execution activity. ✍️ Assignments & auto-grading We offer deep support for creating programming assignments, including automated grading support via unit tests and input/output matching. We’re rapidly expanding our support for this ‘asynchronous’ teaching workflow in addition to our live virtual classrooms. 💬 Chat-based messaging & alerts With our real-time chat, you no longer need to walk around and peak over a student’s shoulder to help them solve a coding problem. You can directly start a conversation with any student and comment directly on a specific piece of code in the students’ workspace. ✅ One-click import from Replit Classroom Have your assignments and student data in Replit Classroom already? With our one-click export tool, it takes only a matter of minutes to transfer years of your teaching data and courseware into Coding Rooms! This tool is available as both a Chrome extension and a Firefox add-on. Once you download the extension for your preferred browser, check out our export tutorial video here! Click here to check out an extended demo video showcasing these features and more! With our remote globally-distributed team, we also provide 24/7 live chat support to all of our users and we’re tremendously passionate about shaping the future of education! We’re built for teachers, and we want everyone to feel empowered when using Coding Rooms to teach programming! We're also offering an extra 30 days on all free trials to Product Hunters who send us the code PH2020 in our live support chat on Coding Rooms. We'll let you know as soon as your trial has been extended! Thanks so much to @ChrisMessina for hunting us! Our request to you: if you know any educators who are teaching programming, we’d love it if you sent them our way by shooting us a quick message at hello@codingrooms.com! 💙
Man Chow
@chrismessina @codingrooms @svarlamov It’s amazing to see your team working on something that can make teaching programming a lot easier in this remote environment. Would love to see this product grow!
Sasha Varlamov
@chrismessina @codingrooms @svarlamov @man_chow Thank you so much for your support @man_chow
Justin Kwong
@chrismessina @codingrooms @svarlamov @man_chow Thanks a lot for the keen response! Our team at Coding Rooms created this platform to alleviate teachers' pressure in the current pandemic situation. We do hope to improve both teaching and learning experience and be a part of cultivating the next generation Computer Science students!
Delvin Wu
Great presentation!! Just wondering if students would like to rewatch the whole session, can the video be recorded?
Enzo Cheng
@delvin_wu Thank you! Absolutely, full recording functionality is available with the legacy conferencing. After the classroom is recorded - it's available for download in a standard format.
Carmine Guida
Absolute game changer! Helped to make delivering my CS class possible during Quarantine. My favorite feature is being able to monitor if students are engaged/actively coding in real-time!
Sasha Varlamov
@carmineguida Thank you so much for your support of Coding Rooms from the earliest days! Really appreciate all of your feedback and we hope that you continue to find it beneficial for your classes :)
Angela Qu
@carmineguida Thanks Carmine! Your support and feedback has been invaluable for our product and we really appreciate teachers like you in our community! 💙
John Angel
Love the idea! It's great to see a focus on revolutionizing a traditionally hard subject. I've always felt that the biggest obstacle to becoming a programmer is the medium in which you learn. Based on my experience, current collegiate methods aren't overly effective at creating an impactful learning experience. I wish this was around when I was in college. In terms of adoption, a big barrier to entry that I've seen in the industry is satisfying the requirements of universities. Is Coding Rooms FERPA compliant?
Sasha Varlamov
@angel1337 Thank you for your support along the way, John! We're really excited about breaking down these barriers to computer science with Coding Rooms! In regards to FERPA, we're fully compliant and you can learn more about our support for student privacy on our website!
Angela Qu
@angel1337 Hi John, thanks for the insightful feedback!! Yes, we are FERPA compliant and you can check out our page on this on our website: https://codingrooms.com/legal-fe... Should you have any further questions, we also have 24/7 live support chat on our website. Thanks!
Adrian Tse
Great product! Could students view other student's work in a collaborative setting?
Karim Marroush
@adrian_tse Thanks for your feedback. Yes, we have "workspaces" specifically for students' work and collaboration.
Sasha Varlamov
@adrian_tse As @kmarrouche mentioned, collaboration is fully-supported using our Workspaces feature, and I also wanted to add that pair programming and group work can be done using the virtual classrooms as well!
Olivia Zhang
This seems like a really well-made product, well done! But I was wondering how are you guys different to Repl.it?
Sasha Varlamov
@olivia_zhang4 Thanks for your question! From a high level, the central aspect that distinguishes us is that Coding Rooms is built specifically for teachers, and comes with education-friendly pricing. On a more granular functionality basis, Coding Rooms is the only platform that provides a single dashboard for instructors to interact with all their students code in real-time, making it easy to answer key questions about student engagement instantly. With the current shift from replit classroom to teams, Coding Rooms is also the only provider that includes seamless assignments, student rostering, and autograding -- which are must-haves for educators. I believe that Coding Rooms is also unique in coupling the audio, video, and screen share conferencing tools with the coding environment.
Fiona Lo
Wow awesome product! So you can teach students coding, kinda like Zoom, and see all their workspaces?
Enzo Cheng
@fiona_lo1 Thank you for your support! Our conferencing feature, which is similar to what Zoom offers, is one of our many tools to help teachers run their coding classrooms. Teachers can see all their students code in real time, but also create courses and assignments all on our platform!
