😻 We're finally here! 😻 I joined the Connect Earth team a bit over a month ago on a mission to make carbon emissions data more accessible, more understandable, and more actionable. It's been an incredible journey so far and now we're looking to improve our product so your feedback would mean the world to us. Thank you for supporting us (and the planet 🌎)!
Nicolas Carmont
@karolina_szweda3 Amazing to have you as part of the team and amazing job in helping support all the launch! πŸš€πŸŒ It has been an amazing journey so far! Look forward to helping further expand our climate impact together! 🌱🌱

Hi Product Hunt πŸ‘‹ I’m Nick, co-founder and CTO at Connect Earth, and I’m so excited to share our very first product with you today! My co-founder @alexander_lempka and I built an API that provides in-depth carbon footprint estimations and insights for any purchase. The truth is that there are several carbon tracking APIs out there, but as a developer, it's difficult to get started using them, and for end-users, it’s hard to ensure the emissions factors are accurate for different countries. We felt the current available solutions were simply not good enough, and decided to provide more ease and accuracy so that banking users can make more informed and environmentally-conscious decisions. We did all of this because not only do consumers want to make more conscious decisions on where to buy and how to adjust their spending habits, but businesses are also increasingly being forced to reduce their carbon footprint due to carbon border taxes and financial regulations. Even though our API has gained a lot of interest among banks and FinTechs, we are not limiting ourselves to the financial sector. Our goal is to support consumers and businesses to understand and reduce their carbon footprint, with a product that is robust and transferrable across many industries. We’re really excited about this launch and the opportunity to get your input on: 1) how useful our API 1.0 version is, and 2) what can we add to make it better. If you have any questions, we’re here to answer! Nick and the Connect Earth team 🌎 P.S. You get 1000 free single API calls per month if you sign up to our console, give it a try!

Amazing work, hoping all banks connect so I can track my carbon footprint more effectively🌳. How does your product account for nuances in shopping habits such as veganism, zero packaging?
Nicolas Carmont
Hey @hannah_grant ! Thanks for the great question! It's tricky to catch some of these nuances, but we typically do in 2 ways: 1. We have a user onboard quiz that allows users to specify specific sustainability habits such as their dietary requirements (e.g vegan/vegetarian). This can be specified in the API. 2. Soon we are launching a way for users to manually categorize certain purchases with more specific environmental tags. Hope that helps and am happy to answer any other questions. Thanks again for your support! 🌍🌱
Hannah Grant
@nicolas_carmont Thanks for the response! I can imagine it it is a very difficult but interesting problem space. I work for an Epic Games company and was wondering if you had thought about how to track carbon emissions for a virtual product?
Callum Campbell
Hi @hannah_grant thank you for this suggestion! It's a really interesting space as I know a big attraction for people purchasing (and also companies selling) on the metaverse is the significant reduction in emissions versus producing and buying physical products. We'll certainly be exploring this space further as it becomes more and more prevalent in our everyday lives!

Congrats on the Launch Team! What are your plans after, expanding to other industries?
Nicolas Carmont
Thanks, @chilipote ! πŸ™ŒπŸŒ Appreciate your support! We're mainly expanding in finance right now within banking, fintech, investments and climate tech, but will be soon looking at eCommerce and more! πŸš€

@nicolas_carmont Great! Looking forward already! :)
Anton Puzorjov
The get started guide looks very clean and simple, well done guys! I wonder if it would be possible to integrate this into accounting software like Xero/FreeAgent/etc.
Nicolas Carmont
Thanks for all the support @anton_puzorjov ! πŸ˜„πŸ™Œ Glad to hear, as we've tried to make it as easy as possible to use! We offer several different types of categorization systems including open banking and some accounting ones! However, support for Xero/FreeAgent categories sounds like a great idea!
Anton Puzorjov
@nicolas_carmont that would be great, as a business owner it is no easy task to estimate our carbon impact and how we could reduce it based on our spending. Thanks!
