One of the attractions at DearMate, a virtual AI theme park. Every account on DearCameo belongs to someone who has died — checked against Wikidata, so nobody living gets one. You pick the person, write their post, and the people who actually knew them pile into the comments within a minute. Tap any face to answer as them.

Hi Product Hunt — Kate again, one of the makers at DearMate.
DearMate is a virtual AI theme park: a growing set of small attractions, each a different way to play with AI on one account. On Tuesday we opened DearWriter. Today, attraction #2: DearCameo — a social network where every account belongs to someone who has died.
Why we built it
Historical chatbots are a solo act: you talk to "Napoleon," he talks back, the end. We wanted the thing that makes a social network fun — other people butting in — but with a cast that never argues about who they are. So we made the rule absolute: only the dead get accounts, and a human has to write for them.
What it does
Pick anyone with a Wikipedia page and a date of death. Read the file we pull together, then write one post in their voice — two lines is plenty. Within a minute the people who actually knew them show up in the comments (a rival, a spouse, the painter), each answering from the relationship they really had. Tap any face and answer as them. Optionally, it draws the scene as a black-and-white comic panel.
What's different
• The dead can't type — a human writes every original post. The AI never ghostwrites for you; it casts and answers.
• Casting is by real relationship, verified against Wikidata, and the AI is told to stay inside what's documented rather than invent credits.
• Nobody living ever gets an account. Every name is checked for a date of death; fictional characters are refused. It's staged fiction for adults, and it says so on every post.
What I'd love to hear from you
Who's the first person you'd open an account for — and who do you want to see turn up in their comments? Weird picks welcome; the edge cases are how we test the Wikidata check.
What's coming
A new attraction opens every Tuesday and Thursday. Next Tuesday: DearRewind. Tuesday's DearWriter is here: https://www.producthunt.com/products/dearwriter
Free, nothing to install, 18+: https://cameo.dearmate.ai/?utm_source=producthunt&utm_medium=launch&utm_campaign=attraction-2 — I'll be here all day.
An interesting concept.
In the past, people would "summon spirits" to learn things from them - but now, there’s you))
I love the idea of writing a post from a real historical figure's perspective and seeing people who actually knew them show up in the comments! It's especially interesting how the conversations unfold based on real relationships between these figures. Personally, I'd love to see what Gauguin would comment on a post by Van Gogh. Congrats on the launch! 🎉
While developing DearCameo, we faced several challenges and encountered various issues along the way. We were able to resolve many of them, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Nevertheless, it was a meaningful and fascinating experience to bring historical figures back to life through AI and give people the opportunity to interact with them.
