The hybrid strategy is something I haven't seen in other debt calculators. How does it decide which debts to prioritize, is it based on a mix of balance and interest rate together?

@abhra_das1
Great question, Abhra
Our hybrid strategy combines both interest rate (like Avalanche) and balance size (like Snowball) to optimise payoff.
It prioritises higher-interest debts to reduce overall interest
While also factoring in smaller balances to create quick wins and keep momentum
So it’s essentially a balance between cost efficiency and motivation.
You can see how the payoff order updates in real time when you enter your debts — would love to hear your thoughts after trying it!
This is great. Being able to actually compare strategies side by side is useful. Most people just pick snowball or avalanche without seeing how much the difference really is for their situation. Does it factor in variable interest rates or just fixed?

Great point, Keith 🙌
Right now, the calculator assumes fixed interest rates for simplicity, but factoring in variable rates is something I’m definitely considering for future updates.
Appreciate you bringing that up!
@dubeypt Makes sense to start with fixed, keeps it clean. Variable rates would be a great v2 feature though, especially for people with credit cards where rates can jump around. Good luck with the launch!

Appreciate that, Keith,
Yeah, exactly, fixed rates help keep things simple to start, but real-world scenarios (especially credit cards) are much more dynamic.
Variable rates + scenario simulations are definitely something I’m planning to explore in upcoming updates.
Thanks again for the encouragement, it really means a lot!
Very cool idea, I did have some issues accessing the app as it was crashing and showing "Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information)." in Chrome but after a few refreshes it worked

@davidiwanow
Thanks so much for the detailed feedback, David
Sorry about the crash, that definitely shouldn’t have happened. I’m currently looking into the client-side error in Chrome and will be pushing a fix soon. Really appreciate you flagging it.
Also, great suggestions, showing payoff timelines in years for larger debts (like home loans) makes a lot of sense, and I love the idea of an APR converter for cases where rates aren’t clearly defined.
Both are now on my improvement list.
If you get a chance to try it again after the fix, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
i noticed that the charts don't always scale perfectly on my smaller tablet screen, so you might want to look at that resonsive layout.

@shania_jennings
Thanks for pointing that out, Shania
Really appreciate the feedback, I’ll look into improving the chart scaling for smaller screens.
Let me know if you notice anything else!
One point when the amounts are larger such as a homeloan then the payoff timeline might make more sense to do in years? Also different types of debt such personal loans etc don't always have a APR so maybe have a APR convertor calculator?

Hey everyone,
Thanks a lot for the amazing support and thoughtful feedback so far — really appreciate it! 🙌
Curious to know — which strategy do you usually follow: Snowball, Avalanche, or something else?
Would love to hear your experiences!
