Printed circuit boards are absolutely foundational to the modern world. But, trapped as they normally are inside products, they are rarely appreciated for their aesthetics. Until now. The Etch wallet celebrates the unique aesthetic beauty of circuit boards.

I've always thought that PCBs have a rather beautiful aesthetic. They are, of course, absolutely synthetic; there's nothing natural about a PCB. But, nonetheless, the way their traces flow around the board, they almost take on an organic quality like the growth of slime molds or something. I really enjoy the look of PCBs, to say nothing of their utility. So, to celebrate this aesthetic, I designed a minimal, EDC wallet made from PCBs. The PCBs themselves are a bit unique. They are made using a black substrate to provide excellent contrast with the copper pads and traces with clear soldermask so those elements are all visible. I call the wallet Etch after the major process used to make PCBs.
