The alternative was writing the app twice — Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android — and maintaining two parallel codebases. Expo Router's file-based routing plus EAS Build ship the same TypeScript codebase to both stores at once, and EAS handles iOS code signing without me ever touching Xcode. Single codebase, both stores live, in six months.

Expo was instrumental in bringing our NeoCharge App to life. Its open-source platform allowed us to rapidly develop and deploy our native app across both iOS and Android, significantly reducing our development time and costs. The hot reloading feature was particularly useful for quick iterations on our UI, helping us create a smooth and intuitive interface for our users. I promote Expo whenever I can because I would not have been able to build Javu without it. Not only do they support development with React Native, but they provide the best guides on all steps of the app development process, even stages that are not necessarily expo related, like App Store content best practices, and warnings for app review rejections. I would always recommend first-time app makers (like myself) to use Expo over a bare React Native project.

The Expo library has uplifted the DX of building the React-Native application. It's not a toy project anymore. The expo community is doing a fantastic job by continuously improving the OG Expo SDK and all the tooling that it provides. I've been using it since 2020 and it's come a long long way. Also, a long to go as well.

It streamlines development, but still, you need to be cautious about npm package compatibilities. Sometimes it's a more robust approach to go with React Native CLI, than Expo CLI.

Expo is wonderful; it's the complete opposite of vendor lock-in. You can add the package to your bare workflow, you can build locally, you can set up your own update server... Expo is a blessing!

The level of convenience is unparalleled. Not having to install Android studio and Xcode while developing is a game changer. Thank you Expo.
