Hi everyone,
I'm the developer behind Hygular, an independent frontend UI engine I've been working on.
Hygular started from a fairly simple idea: CSS utilities, UI components, and their JavaScript behavior should work together without requiring a particular frontend framework.
The core includes semantic CSS utilities, shared design tokens, reusable components, and a vanilla JavaScript runtime with no external dependencies.
Components can be initialized through HTML attributes, and the runtime handles supported interactions directly in the DOM. React integration is available through optional hooks, but React isn't required to use Hygular.
The tooling is separate from the core. There's an optional CLI for generating CSS from the classes used in a project, along with a project initializer for getting started.
I wanted to keep these parts independent so developers could use the CSS alone, add the runtime where needed, or integrate Hygular into an existing application without changing their stack.
This is version 1.0.0-beta.1. It's still early, and there are areas I expect to improve as the project gets used outside my own development environment.
I'm particularly interested in feedback on the public API, runtime behavior, framework integration, and documentation.
You can explore the project at https://hygular.com.
Thanks for taking a look.
