Lookie shows decent potential, but they launched their paid plan prematurely.
I initially tried it because I needed a quick way to summarize YouTube videos on my iPhone. I appreciate that Steven reached out personally via email for feedback.
Yesterday, I attempted to use it again. The share-to-Lookie function failed when trying to share a YouTube video from the YouTube app. There was no notification explaining the issue (Feedback #1: they should add an alert about trial expiration with a call-to-action to upgrade). After logging back into the Lookie app, I discovered my trial had expired. I upgraded to their highest tier plan, but unfortunately, the AI summary wasn't satisfactory—it missed the specific video segment I was searching for. Their upcoming "Timestamp" and "AI chat" features might improve this.
I then recalled that Snipd—an AI Podcast app I already have a paid subscription to—also supports YouTube video uploads. It worked flawlessly there, and I noticed their pricing is actually lower than Lookie's!
As an early Snipd user, I've been impressed by their team's approach. They actively engaged with podcast listeners on X, their founder personally handled feedback, and they built a community through their Discord channel—all valuable lessons for other creators.
They collected extensive user feedback before launching their paid plan. After using Snipd for podcasts and seeing their reasonable pricing, upgrading felt natural.
I'm sharing these observations because Lookie's developers could benefit from following Snipd's example to enhance their app.
