Mochi is a little pink blob who lives on your Mac. It floats around, naps, teases you about late nights and carries loose Desktop files into folders (never deletes, undo any move). Pro adds a tiny life sim: a strawberry tree, a nest and a family to raise.

@curiouskitty The difference is that Mochi tidies in front of you, not behind you. It physically flies across the desktop to each file and moves it while you watch. Batch utilities hand you a result and ask you to trust it; with Mochi you see the file get picked up, and undo is one click in the menu bar. So: not "Mochi sorts better." Mochi sorts often, because you never have to go and get it.
@kai_megatron I am already working on the next version that learns filing patterns over time.. it's ready and I will deploy it later on today.
does the basic file tidying still work without adding an api key, or is that part gated behind having a claude/gpt key set up
@jaewon_seo Yes the basic file tidying up works without an api key. The api key is just to give mochi the ability to use a language model to comment on the things you are doing on your desktop.
the file-organizing part I get, but the pro tier is a family to raise and a nest to maintain, that's a life-sim loop layered on top of a utility. is there any guilt-trip mechanic if you don't check in for a few days (a sad pet, a neglected nest), or is it purely cosmetic with zero consequence for ignoring it? that distinction matters a lot for whether this stays a fun desktop toy or turns into one more app quietly asking for daily attention.
@galdayan if you neglect them the family will starve and start to eat each until there is only one left again. When they start to eat each other they will mutate and have coloured pimples.
@galdayan o the second half of your question though — it never comes after you for it. No notifications, no badges, nothing that reaches you when it's not on screen. When it's down to the last one it just hibernates, sleeps with little z's, and waits until you nudge it. And the original Mochi can't die, so there's no save-file you can permanently ruin.
You can also hide the nest and garden from the menu bar and keep the tidying — then it's just a pet that floats around and comments, with nothing to maintain at all.
@nickmorefun no guilt mechanic and a hard "can't die" floor is exactly the right call for something that lives on your desktop all day. a pet that can actually punish you for being busy would get uninstalled within a week. good answer.
