Strava is built for training: segments, PRs, kudos. All of that is great if you're chasing performance, but I don't race, I just like remembering rides. Strava buries the "where did I actually go" part under performance metrics I don't care about. Roveri flips the priority, the map and the memory of the ride are the whole point instead of an afterthought.
Roveri
Hi Product Hunt π
Every riding app treats a ride like a workout: pace, distance, leaderboards. But a ride isn't a workout. It's the road, the weather, the day β and nothing was keeping that.
So I built Roveri, a riding journal for iPhone. One tap and it captures everything worth remembering: the route painted by your speed, the climbs, the weather you rode through. By December you're not looking at a spreadsheet of numbers β you're re-opening a season.
My favorite thing in it is the Atlas: every road you've ever ridden, drawn on one map as squares that deepen each time you ride them again. Watching your ground grow is stupidly addictive.
Free: recording, full history, ride details, share cards. Pro: the Atlas, a where-to-ride weather map, deeper stats, GPX export.
So, riders: what does your season deserve to be remembered by?
@p12seΒ Roveriβs focus on preserving the ride rather than just measuring it stood out. I upvoted the product, and the Atlas concept is a particularly nice way to make accumulated riding feel tangible. It gives the data a reason to matter beyond performance metrics.
@p12se Congrats on the launch. Good to see a journal rather than another tracker. Everything else in this space just turns the day into statistics.
Does it keep recording properly with no signal? Spend a lot of time out of range and most apps quietly give up.
Roveri
@richardmohammedΒ Yes, recording doesn't need a data connection. GPS is a receiver, so your phone works out its position from the satellite signal itself, and the track gets written to the phone as you ride.
Only the extras need signal - weather, place names, the map on the card - and those fill in the next time you're online.
And thanks for your question!
@p12seΒ Thats good to know. Thanks for getting back to me. Most apps in this space just fail quietly and you find out afterwards.
minimalist phone: reduce your screentime
Almost like GitHub for travelling. :)
Roveri
@busmark_w_nikaΒ Yeah, same green squares, except the only way to fill these in is to go outside and touch grass. :)

Rides painted on a map is such a nice hook, I'd probably ride somewhere dumb just to make the line look good haha. Does it pull from Apple Health or does it track on its own?
Roveri
@yelyzaveta_kibetsΒ Own GPS, not Health. Tap start, ride, tap end - the app records the track itself. Phone can stay locked in your pocket, and nothing runs in the background when you're not riding.
No Health import yet. Would you use it?
Softorino π»π²
@p12se Yeah I would, but not for the workout stats. For the rides I forget to hit start on.
If the whole point is an atlas of every road I've ever ridden, then every ride I forgot to record is a hole in it, and that would bug me way more than a missing number. Health already has those rides sitting there. Manual import though, pick a ride and pull it in, no auto sync so nothing gets counted twice.
What happens right now if you forget to tap start, is that ride just gone?
Roveri
@yelyzaveta_kibetsΒ Right now yes, it's gone. You have to tap start.
I did build auto-detect before 1.0 and then took it out. To catch a ride you didn't start, the app has to watch your movement all the time - so it also picks up the drive to the airport, or sitting in someone else's car. I didn't want roads on my map that I didn't ride.
So it's not a no, I just don't have the good version yet. Probably it asks you after: "you moved 60 km around 2pm, was that a ride?" Would that work, or does it need to be silent?
Softorino π»π²
@p12se That's a solid reason to have pulled it, and the ask-after version sounds right to me. One thing though, I would hate it as a notification. A push saying "was that a ride?" always arrives while I'm doing something else and I'd swipe it away without even reading it.
A little tray inside the app I'd actually enjoy. 3 things waiting to be sorted next time I open it, when I'm already in there looking at my rides and in the mood for it. And default everything to not a ride, so nothing touches the map unless I say yes. If a wrong guess costs me nothing you can afford to guess way more often.
Does a ride I confirm 2 days later end up as good as a live one though, or is it thinner because you never got the weather for it?
Roveri
@yelyzaveta_kibets Tracking everything and putting it on the map just isn't what I want the app to be. A ride is something you decided to do, and the map only has what you meant to put there.
But making it easier to start - that I can fix. A widget or Siri, so it's one tap with your gloves half on instead of unlocking and finding the app. Still you starting it, just a lot less work. The build in review already adds pause and resume from the Lock Screen, so it's the same direction.
I might change my mind later - things move fast and I'm one guy. If I do build it, it'll be off by default and you'd turn it on yourself. Nothing starts watching just because you updated.
Anyway - use the app, watch the updates, and write me any time, hi@roveri.app or here, whatever's easier.

@p12se Off by default and you turn it on yourself is exactly the right call, that keeps the map honest. Widget with gloves half on is the fix I was hoping for, so I'll keep the app and watch the updates.
