I use disk space scanners to free up space. I prefer browsing to see, after sorting, which directories or files uses the most space so I made SimplyDiskSweeper to do that. Choose a folder (often user Home but ~ is common too) and inspect them with Finder-like columns. Version 0.18 shows shows repository-ignored items (useful for developers who use git and gitignore), and finds exact duplicates (hardlinks) inside the folder you choose.
