Hold fn and talk. SpeechFast types clean text at your cursor, in any app. Everything runs on your Mac. The speech model is downloaded once; after that, no audio and no text ever leaves your machine. It works offline, on a plane, behind a locked-down corporate network. Dictate in Mail, Slack, Notion, your code editor, anywhere you can type Filler words and false starts cleaned up with Apple Intelligence Your own vocabulary for names and jargon History of your recent dictations, stored locally

Having an automated test that fails the build if anything leaves the Mac during dictation is a really reassuring detail. When pasting doesn't work in an app, does the text stay somewhere I can copy it from, like the local history?
@pixelmus oh nice, so the text never just disappears if the paste fails! that's a really thoughtful fallback 🙏
@pixelmus Are you running Parakeet in a streaming mode with a rolling buffer, or transcribing the whole utterance after the key is released? I'm curious how it holds up on accented English and when someone switches languages mid-sentence.
@samkeet_jain Hey Samkeet! No streaming, it records while you hold the key and transcribes the whole thing when you let go. It's running Parakeet Ultra (a fine-tuned v3), fully on-device. Accented English works well for me (I'm French), and mixing languages is mostly fine, though a single foreign word in the middle of a sentence can trip it up sometimes.
@pixelmus oh that makes sense. I've been on Wispr Flow for a long time and the one thing that keeps me there is correcting myself mid sentence. I can say "A, B, C" then "no wait, X, Y, Z" and only X, Y, Z ends up in the text, which matters because I think out loud a lot. is that on your roadmap? doing it on device seems like the hardest part
@samkeet_jain That's definitely on my roadmap ! I will try to get this use behavior 100% locally
tried it in warp terminal and it pasted clean, no weird formatting, way better than i expected for a terminal
