Most AI photo taggers upload your images to the cloud or bolt on as a separate tool. Tag Your Photos doesn't: -100% on-device (Gemma 4 12B via Apple MLX) — no cloud, no upload - Works directly on your Photos library — no exporting, no duplicates - Keywords land in Spotlight system-wide — searchable right from the iPhone/iPad home screen, not just inside the app - Stays general when unsure — no falsely specific guesses
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Maik, an indie developer building macOS apps around local, on-device AI. Tag Your Photos actually started with a question from a user in r/ApplePhotos — they were looking for something like this for Apple Photos specifically. That question gave me the idea, and the sense that there might be real demand for it, so I built it.
It's the sibling app to my other project, Photo Assisted Keywords (PAK), which does the same AI keyword tagging for stock photographers working with folders and sidecar files. TYPh takes the same idea and wires it directly into your Apple Photos library — no exporting, no cloud, nothing leaves your Mac. It runs Gemma 4 12B locally via Apple MLX, and the keywords it writes are searchable system-wide through Spotlight, even from your iPhone/iPad home screen.
I'd love to hear what you think, and I'm around all day to answer questions — technical or otherwise. 🙏
Small side note — there's a free one-time redemption code hidden behind the gift icon near the top of the page (valid until Aug 15). Curious if anyone's spotted it yet, or if it's too easy to miss? 😅

@madaschi Thanks !! for all, sorry if it is too basic, but did not know how to use the code :) log-in to apple account, click on your name and redeem code - app is downloading automatically :)
@adamelisha1 No worries, single-use code, sorry about that! I don't see a way to message you directly here — mind shooting me an email so I can send you a fresh code? osi.schimjon@icloud.com

7.9 GB download size! Is that because it runs a fully embedded local Vision Model natively on-device? Love that it keeps everything 100% offline and private!
@zeo81 Exactly right! The download includes Gemma 4 12B (5-bit quantized), running fully on-device via Apple's MLX framework — no separate model download after install, no cloud calls, ever. It's the trade-off for the "nothing leaves your Mac" part: a real, capable vision model bundled right in the app instead of a lightweight wrapper around an API. Glad that resonates. 🙏
Now that launch day has wrapped up — thank you so much all for the votes, comments, and questions! 🙏 TYPh now has its own forum here on PH if you'd like to ask questions, share how it's working for your library, or just hang out with other Mac photo folks. And if you've tried it and have a minute, a review would mean a lot — really helps other people find it. 😀

@nandrewlive Thank you for grabbing it, and for the clear step-by-step — that'll help others who weren't sure how redeem codes work. Enjoy tagging! 🙏
@madaschi Unfortunately received an error code stating "This code has been redeemed. This code has already been used for a different Apple Account." :(
