Finally, the email app I’ve been waiting for
For years, I’ve been waiting for someone to finally build what seemed obvious to me: one app that brings email, tasks and calendar together into one coherent workflow. Talanoa is the first app I’ve found that actually delivers on that vision — and does it remarkably well.
📧 Email → task → calendar. An email can naturally become a task, and that task can then be scheduled directly into your calendar when you actually plan to deal with it.
🗂 Your system, not theirs. Talanoa doesn’t force you into one productivity system. I personally organize my tasks into:
Today
This Week
This Month
Someday
This gives me a proper triage system instead of an endless to-do list.
🛠 Practical and well thought out. You can tell it was built by someone who actually needs to manage both a busy inbox and a lot of things to get done.
💬 Excellent support. Extremely responsive and genuinely open to feedback and suggestions.
After years of trying alternatives, this is pretty much the app I’ve been waiting for. Thanks, John!
@bettercallj0hn this looks like what Slack probably should have been
@madsfromfjordkit haha it was one of my first catchline "Slack-like for emails" ;-)
@bettercallj0hn its nice product. Kudos to you.
I like the privacy angle of it: on-device, no cloud sync. The clean chat view is a nice bonus too. Does the on-device AI work offline?
@alieksia Thanks! 🙏 Yes, fully. You download the AI model once from the settings, and from then on everything runs on your machine: search, summaries, replies, translations. No internet needed, nothing ever leaves your computer.
And it's not just the AI: your emails are stored locally too, so you can read, search and write offline. Anything you send gets queued and goes out as soon as you're back online.
Hey John, I use a team inbox with a few other team members - maybe this is outside the scope, but are there any plans for supporting that kind of group inbox situation? I could see Talanoa bridging that gap nicely, given how it completely rewrites the UX of an inbox anyway. Great looking product, btw.
@justdan yes B2B/Teams features are coming in November ;-) it will be game changer to collaborate with your team on emails.
@bettercallj0hn 🙌 amazing, thank you.
John, this is a great app! But one thing: is it possible to have a web version? With yet another app open on my Mac, things just get messy. I like how Gmail just sits in a Chrome tab, all in one place and organized.
@matheus_morais_araujo Hi Matheus, unfortunately a web app isn’t an option due to the "privacy and local approach". We'd need servers to store all our users' data
@bettercallj0hn Congrats on the launch! Love your approach and fresh take on emails / conversations! Do you have a mobile app?
@yespana Thank you so much! 🙏
Yes! The mobile app (iOS & Android) is currently in review with Apple and Google, but you can already try the beta today:
📱 iOS: join the TestFlight here 👉 https://testflight.apple.com/join/WMxWemSj
🤖 Android: send me an email at john@talanoa.email with your Play Store email address and I'll send you an invite link
Would love to hear what you think of it!
@bettercallj0hn Congrats and happy launch! I like the idea and support the local & offline approach. Maybe mcp would be a great feature for those who have their own agents running for managing mail.
@paul_koch2 thanks Paul. Yes internal MCP is definitively on the roadmap to allow more complex workflows with your own agents 👍
@bettercallj0hn nice - looking forward to it!
This is really cool. I have been struggling to keep up with my followup mails. I will try. One quick question, how do you integration with my email? I don't like to share my cred.
@vicky_burnwal1 the app is local only, we don't have servers. Your credentials stay encrypted on your computer only and your emails too.
