5 questions that make me write better website copy for brands

In my 4+ years of writing website copy, I have noticed something.
It is easy to work with a client when you completely understand what they need.
Before I take on a website copy project, I ask my clients these five questions:
1. Who is your target audience.
Why?
When I know who we’re targeting, I know the best words, format and structure to use for the copy.
2. What’s the one action you want people to take when they land on this website.
Why?
It’s always better to have a primary focus, and people have different priorities for their business. For someone, it could be to get visitors to buy, for another it could be to build a community.
When I know exactly what you want, it’s easier to write.
3. Why should people choose you over others?
Why?
When you tell me what you think makes you different from other service providers or sellers, I will understand your unique selling proposition (USP) and use it to draw in the right audience.
4. Are there other businesses you wish to emulate?
Why?
If you have a business role model, I certainly want to see them. With proper research, I can understand their website copy, and structure yours alike.
5. What vibe do you want to give?
Why?
Your brand tone is very important, and if you tell me what vibe you want to give, I’d create a suitable tone for your vibe.
Do you want to be: bubbly and friendly, professional, simple and earthy, etc.
Your vibe will determine your brand tone.
So, yes, these questions have helped me create good website copy for clients in the past, and will help me create even more.💪
