A global social experiment in viral content

I have been studying what drives content viral for the past year with the goal of launching a site that incorporates as many of those “ingredients” to see if those work. While it is impossible to predict if something will go viral, research indicates the following factors as most critical: (a) Content should be visually interesting; (b) Should have universal appeal; (c) Should evoke some emotional response such as fun or anger; (d) Should be a bit controversial; (e) Should encourage people towards a collective goal or outcome. Do you concur with the above or do you believe there are other critical things (apart from pure luck of course!) that’s needed to make something go viral organically? Can one really engineer a piece of viral content? Welcome your thoughts as it will help me continue to shape the site I just launched for this experiment. Thanks!
