Many of us try and build communities, be it friends community or learning communities or our product communities! We have faced our own set of challenges when doing so, I would like to know what have been your key challenges to building a community?

A year ago I started a community for stock & crypto traders, where it has no expanded to some futures & forex traders as well. As with any community the beginning is rough- how to get the word out? How to make it known for others to find? Where do you start? Discord is where the community started, and within Discord is where our first members came from. There is some neat websites that let you list your Discord community that help you get started (but can also be targeted by spammers/scammers). Aside from building, the next challenge is activity or engagement. Creating new ways to keep users active, giving them something they want to stay and engage about. We did this with events, contests, and exclusive roles and badges on our apps the more active a user is.

@richw That's really interesting to learn. I think starting point is every single person's pain to understand and after starting security and avoiding scams is always the one thing that becomes important. Tackling them can be really hard but over time you learn and grow more vigilant. Every community does have a point where it becomes self engaging and self sustaining, do you think that it is just about cracking that formula so it can become a flywheel over time?
