I did a ton of research before launching and only today (after launch) did I realize something crucial! all the upvotes in the world don't matter if the upvoters aren't pre-existing PH users. big bummer for me because a lot of my product users are upvoting me to support, but my product isn't getting the traction I hoped for on the PH homepage

We had a very similar experience. Finished with lower rank despite being ahead of a couple of other products vote-wise... Many of our users are in academia and hadn't even heard of PH before.
The good news: your users' support will be that much stronger on your next launch! And, even more importantly, it's better to have happy/supportive users than a high PH rank. Though, of course, both would be nice. :)

@martin_demkowicz yeah! it's a good feeling to have so much support from your users, but bittersweet because of the way PH penalizes it. learning experience for sure!
